About us
Best Work Yet is a training and facilitation company based in Toronto. We believe that really great, inspired work is too often slowed down by personal and workplace obstacles. We know that with some targeted, customized training we can help overcome these obstacles and promote creativity and teamwork! People can work together to create amazing things. As well as our great suite of workshops, there are three things that we think make us different: Our facilitative approach, practical workshops and our belief that one size doesn’t fit all. Facilitative Approach: Our workshop leaders are not lecturers. Our clients tell us they come out feeling engaged. We believe this is because we are listening as much as we talk. We take a facilitative approach to have people engage, share with, and learn from one another. And this is really important, because we can read the room and give them what they need for their work and priorities. Our clients tell us this makes all the difference. Practical Workshops: During our workshops, people work on their real projects and tasks so the workshop produces results directly, rather than just giving concepts to apply later. So, at the end of the day, the team has moved forward on their work. They’re feeling excited that they’ve accomplished something. One Size Doesn’t Fit All: We believe it’s important to give people different tools and approaches that work with their unique styles. We work with their strengths. Ultimately, we want to help them to get their work done and achieve their goals. Perhaps most importantly, we give options, so people can choose the concepts that work best for them, rather than providing a “one size fits all” solution. When it comes to your people, we help them get out of their own way to get their best work done and we would love to be part of your company’s success. To do that, we offer workshops that help build skills on three levels: individual productivity, team performance and next-level impact.

My job as a facilitator is not to tell anyone what to do or to how to do it. My job is to help guide your thinking so you can make small changes that will have a larger impact. Three important aspects of being a good facilitator: don't lecture, don't assume and don't fix. 1. Don't lecture. 🗣 I'm there to ask thought-provoking questions and let the group's voice take center stage. Whether it's strategic planning or a focus group, the expertise resides in the participants. 2. Don't assume. 🤔 Facial expressions can be often be misinterpreted. We want people to smile when they're listening to us but it's just not natural. If somebody looks angry, they might just be concentrating. Instead of assuming, inquire ""I'm noticing a change of expression. What's on your mind?"" Assume the best intentions and you'll foster a more open and collaborative environment. 3. Don't fix. 🛠 In sessions I present participants with an activity, prompting them to consider concepts from a specific perspective. There have been times I’ve noticed they are doing it “wrong". However, in stead of fixing, I'll let them have their own experience. When individuals realize they've misunderstood, it often becomes a bonus learning opportunity. Sometimes, deviations lead to valuable insights. Allow space for creativity and learning. There's a real beauty to bringing a structure and holding an intention to get towards certain outcomes, but really just letting the whole experience breathe. #facilitator #business

I think we need more conflict, not less. 🤔 When doing something important, having different perspectives can draw out risks, concerns and challenges to help make us better. Sure, hearing it can be uncomfortable, but it can be a much bigger challenge down the line if those things aren’t brought up at the beginning. We avoid these conversations because: 1⃣ We're trying to be “nice” (which as Canadians is part of who we are). 2⃣ We're trying to save time. Hearing concerns can slow us down and we don’t have time for that. BUT, if we keep sweeping disagreements under the rug because we want to save time or keep everyone happy, we're doing ourselves a disservice and potentially causing bigger issues. Conflict doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It’s a normal part of business that we need to learn to embrace. Let's change the narrative by: Sharing a perspective that might be different Saying uncomfortable things Sharing what's on your mind Now tell me honestly, do you disagree? 😉 #conflictresolutions #communication

Habits are the building blocks of our lives, shaping our daily routines and long-term success. Whether you're striving for personal growth, health improvement, or professional development, understanding the art of habit building is a game-changer. The key to habit formation is consistency. Start small, with achievable goals, and gradually work your way up. Make it a daily commitment. Soon, those small actions will become second nature. Remember, it's not about perfection; it's about progress. Slip-ups are part of the journey. Embrace them as opportunities to learn and recommit. Surround yourself with a supportive environment. Share your goals with friends or family who can cheer you on and hold you accountable. And don't forget to celebrate your victories, no matter how small. It reinforces your commitment and motivates you to keep going. In the end, habit building is a powerful tool for achieving your aspirations. So, take that first step today, and watch your future self thank you for it. #habitbuilding #tools #businesstool

Goals are the compass that guide us through our personal and professional journeys. Yet, setting goals is just the beginning. The true magic happens when we start measuring our actions to ensure we're on the right path to success. Measuring your actions is crucial for several reasons. 1. It provides clarity and focus by making your goals more tangible and helping you understand what needs to be done. 2. It promotes accountability, serving as a reflection of your efforts and making it challenging to ignore or procrastinate in the face of progress data. 3. It enables real-time progress tracking, allowing you to celebrate small victories and adapt your strategy as necessary. 4. It helps with course corrections, identifying deviations early to stay aligned with your goals. 5. It involves monitoring leading indicators, which indicate whether you're on the right path, and lag indicators, showing if you've achieved your goals, making it a dynamic tool for future success. Measuring your actions isn’t about micromanaging every detail but about optimizing your journey toward your goals. Measurements serve as the compass guiding you towards the success you aspire to achieve tomorrow based on the actions you take today. #measurementforsuccess #goals #measuringgoals

Recently, I found myself discussing Fitbit stats with my sister, and she questioned the obsession with measuring everything. Here's my perspective on why it holds significance: 1. Measurement drives improvement: Tracking progress is a pathway to improvement. Whether it's steps, water intake or heart rate, measuring creates awareness and fosters growth. 2. Accountability through tracking: Metrics aren't just numbers; they're a tool for accountability. Whether celebrating hitting 13,000 steps or monitoring food and water intake, tracking keeps me committed to broader health objectives. 3. Stats as progress indicators: Beyond the immediate numbers, these stats offer insights into my overall health journey. They're markers of progress toward more significant health goals. Beyond personal health, this concept extends to the realm of business and behavioral success: 1. Define tangible business goals: Begin with a clear and measurable goal, such as reducing employee turnover. 2. Implement a single transformative change: Identify one actionable change—leaders, consider the impact of consistent one-on-one meetings. 3. Track consistent behavior: Regularly assess whether you're implementing the identified change. Are those crucial one-on-ones happening consistently? Tracking behavior serves as a guide, creating lead measures indicating the likelihood of goal achievement. Whether it's step counts or strategic meetings, lead measures are the compass guiding present actions toward desired future success. In my work with teams striving for enhanced collaboration, I specialize in aligning, tracking behaviors, and ensuring accountability for tangible and sustainable change. Think about what you want to have happen in your business. Now imagine that we worked together, and you were truly able to make change as a result. What would it be like? What could you and your team achieve together? We work with teams that are serious about making real change to how they work together. By going on a journey over several sessions, you're able to make essential shifts. I want to share with you about an executive team I worked with recently. Here's one piece of feedback from an anonymous survey: ‘The program exceeded my expectations. My initial assumption of best work yet was that it was simply a series of team building exercises, meant to foster collaboration, which it is on the surface, what it became was something far deeper and more revealing. Best Work Yet coached and understanding of foundational communication and collaboration knowledge at what would be considered Lightspeed in business years and made it enjoyable.’ So how would you know that our way of working is right for you? First would have a discovery call and figure out if we are a fit! We might not be a fit if you are looking for a one and done training session because we measure behavior change over time. If you are looking for people to be quiet and follow orders, again, we might not be a good fit because at best work yet, we encourage people to speak up so that we can address problems proactively. Some signs that we might be a great fit: - If you are committed to being honest about what's going on. - If you really want to listen to your people. - If you are committed to making behavior changes. If we have a discovery call and we agree to move to the next step, I'll share with you how we would create a customized program for you. And that program would help you to get aligned to track behavior change and to stay accountable for making real changes. I recently shared some of my Fitbit stats with my sister and she said, 'Why is everyone so obsessed with measuring everything?' Well, here's why it matters to me. 1. What gets measured gets improved. 2. Tracking keeps me accountable. 3. These stats also let me know how I'm tracking to more important goals. Also, I was really proud because I hit 13,000 Steps yesterday. But… so what? Hitting numbers like this, while also tracking what I ate and how much water I get, keeps me accountable and helps me to reach my health goals. I had a few high blood pressure readings not long ago and my goal was to bring that down to normal. After three weeks of tracking my exercise and my diet, I'm at a normal level. So, let's take this to business and how measuring your behavior helps you succeed. 1. Define your measurable goal. Maybe you want to reduce employee turnover. 2. Decide on one thing that you'll do differently. One of the most effective things you can do as a leader is to have good one on ones with your employees. 3. Track your behavior. Are you having those regular and consistent one on ones? When you track your behavior, it creates a lead measure it tells you whether you are likely to achieve your goal and your lag measure like the percentage turnover that tells you whether you've actually achieved it. Whether you are counting the steps or you are counting the number of one on ones you have your lead measures are essential because they're telling you if what you are doing today is more likely to lead you to the success that you want tomorrow, ie your lag measures. I work with teams that want to improve how they work together, I can help you to get on the same page, track your behavior and hold you accountable for making real change. A participant once asked me… “How can I help them see what they're missing?” When we're working with someone with a different perspective, it can be difficult to move forward if you feel like you're not being understood. Instead of trying to be convincing, consider how you can broaden your own perspective rather than theirs. Here are some conversation starters to help you understand their interests and concerns: 1. What do you already know about this topic? 2. Tell me about where you're coming from with this. 3. Tell me about what you're interested in. 4. How would you benefit from this? 5. Tell me about what your concerns are. Once you understand someone else’s point of view you can acknowledge it and create common ground. #gainunderstanding #conversationstarters #communicationtip

This picture is me grumpy after a crappy workout. I had slept badly. I didn't want to go to the gym, but I did it anyway. I got through the workout, I felt tired, but later on I was really glad that I had done it. So how does this relate to work? Sometimes when I'm working with my clients, I'm describing some habits for them that will help them to get to their goals, things like listening to their team members with an open mind or having a proper meeting agenda. And sometimes they'll say to me things like 'Oh, I've heard that before I know that', or 'we've tried it and it didn't work'. But can you imagine how ridiculous it would be if I applied that thinking to my workouts? Right? I know how to exercise. I've tried it a few times. Actually, I've tried it way more than a few times, I exercise like two to five times a week. And I have to keep doing it... What I have to keep exercising? I have to keep eating healthily to stay fit and healthy. So, when I'm working with clients, often I'm helping them to get really consistent about making those behavioral changes that's going to get them to their goals. Just like my personal trainer helps me to reach my fitness goals. As my friend and mentor Chris Taylor says, ideas are only valuable when they're applied. And I'll add to that when they are applied consistently. Over time. You may not think that discipline is sexy, but I think that results are when we want to get those results. We need to do three things. 1. Identify what it is we're trying to achieve. 2. Figure out what habits are going to get us there. 3. Do those habits over and over and over. Let me know in the comments. What is one habit at work that helps you to achieve your goals. Watch the full video here: https://buff.ly/46oewry #Disciplineisnotsexy #businesstips #justdoit
