One year ago, I applied to an unpaid internship on Indeed. I was depressed. I had been let go from my previous job due to my auditory processing issues. I was beginning to believe I simply wasn't good enough to do anything, and would never be able to contribute or earn my own wage. One year ago, I volunteered at the 2023 BIPOC Foundation Legacy Gala. I wore a powder pink suit, and felt utterly out of place. This year, I volunteered at the 2024 BIPOC FOUNDATION Legacy Gala. I wore the sport jacket I wore to my first trade conference, paired with skinny jeans & Doc Martens as has become my signature. I welcomed guests at the door with a smile, and confidence I have only found due to my internship with BIPOC Foundation. I found this confidence thanks to Abdulaziz Sani and Clement Esene, who have believed in my potential from day one, and continue to cheer me on today. I found this confidence thanks to Gloria Chiadikobi whose professional guidance, mentorship, and friendship, was invaluable on both good days and bad. I found this confidence thanks to Annie S., whose friendship and insight I continue to rely on in my business, and in life. Through my internship with BIPOC FOUNDATION, I have learned invaluable skills, discovered unfound confidence, and made life-long friends. I am thankful, to everyone above and to everyone I have worked with, for helping me become someone worthy of the 2024 Volunteer of the Year Award.

I would like to formally express my heartfelt appreciation to BIPOC FOUNDATION for the opportunity to be part of such an exceptional community. Thank you for the opportunity to contribute meaningful to Black and Indigenous lives. My involvement with BIPOC has provided me with invaluable experiences that have allowed me to effectively support marginalized communities, a mission that resonates deeply with my professional values. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to advance my career and for your willingness to open your doors to me when others were closed. As an immigrant, it was truly difficult to navigate through my career. Your steadfast support and encouragement have been instrumental in my professional journey, enabling me to collaborate with dedicated individuals and gain strong standing in my career today. Special thanks to the Executive Director, BIPOC Foundation, Clement Esene and to Abdulaziz Sani Frank Onuh and Michael Agbabiaka for your unwavering commitment to fostering professional development and making a meaningful impact in my career. Thank you to my Partner Nnamdi Chiadikobi for your unwavering support and encouragement. This experience has been transformative and I am honored to have contributed to such vital initiatives. I wish you all the very best, continued success and progress. Thank you 🙏
