BLG recently acted as corporate counsel for Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN), one of the biggest Indigenous communities in Manitoba, in its shareholder activism win that led to the purchase of the Minago Nickel Platinum Group Elements Project. This mining project, located within the Norway House Traditional Territory, will play a significant role in the long-term economic development for NHCN and the surrounding communities.   BLG worked with TDS as Manitoba counsel and the BLG team consisted of Julie Bogle, Kent Kufeldt, Salvador Pimentel, and Claudia Wheler. Live Nation Canada announces Rogers Stadium, Toronto’s largest seasonal outdoor concert venue, at YZD (formerly the Downsview Airport Lands). Scheduled to open in summer 2025, it will host up to 50,000 attendees. The IBA World Women Lawyers Conference in Toronto last week served as the perfect primer for next year’s IBA Annual Conference, also set to be hosted in Toronto. Organized by the IBA Women Lawyers’ Committee, the conference brought together women lawyers from around the globe for the tenth time, with the focus on leadership, empowerment, diversity & inclusion, and driving meaningful change in the legal profession. As part of the Host Committee, BLG was pleased to support the conference, helping to connect legal professionals for these important discussions. BLG’s Edona Vila moderated a cross-jurisdictional panel discussion on ESG laws and the evolving landscape of reporting obligations, exploring a range of ESG insights, from litigation trends to regulatory and corporate governance obligations to M&A considerations.
