Ensuring safe journeys for engines weighing 15 tons?🛫 This was the challenge facing the Chinese engine manufacturer, a joint venture between an aerospace group and a passenger aircraft manufacturer with 96,000 employees. In order to transport the aircraft engines safely, the company was planning a new carrier vehicle that required special casters. 👇 The heavy-duty double swivel casters with Extrathane® polyurethane tread met the requirements of this application. They ensure quiet running and low rolling resistance. In addition, the spring-loaded casters reduce vibration during transport and the directional lock ensures that the carrier vehicle always drives straight ahead when the directional lock is activated. Calculating the load capacity of a caster is easy - simply divide the total load by the 4 casters under the transport device and you're done? Wrong thinking! ❌ Have you ever thought about what happens if not all casters touch the ground - e.g. when driving over uneven ground? Exactly, individual casters then carry significantly more load! 💡The rule of thumb is to divide the transport weight by 3. But sometimes even that is not enough! Factors such as crossing thresholds or travelling speed also play a role and influence the load capacity. 👉 To achieve the ideal result, divide the total weight of the transport device by the number of load-bearing casters and multiply this figure by the safety factor.
