On the latest #TEConnectPodcast, we reminisce about #VARTECH2024, recap the event for those who missed it, and share the key insights and new ideas explored there. 🛫 It was a sold-out show packed with hardware vendors, software companies, and resellers eager to see new tech, explore new partnerships, and network. A trip to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and the inclusion of TED Conferences led us to embrace the theme of “Where Ideas Take Flight.” Day 1️⃣ 🛰️ The general session kicked off with an appearance by William Shatner via Proto Hologram, a tribute to BlueStar Founder and the original VARTECHer, Steve Cuntz, and two riveting TED Conversations with Tim Leberecht and Dr. Erika Hamden. Tim spoke about emphasizing humanity in your business and not being afraid of imperfection. Dr. Hamden shared her experience trying to launch satellites and the lessons learned from failure and persistence. 🐝 The exhibit hall? “The floor was abuzz unlike any other year in the past,” says Dean, and it carried through both days to the very end, indicating a genuine excitement for what our partners brought to the show. John also appreciated how many of the exhibitors leaned into the space theme. Day 2️⃣ 🎤 TEConnect Live Plus started the day with ISV pitches, solution deep dives, and videos about BlueStar’s services and people. The event covered MES, machine vision, robotics, RFID, AI, and so much more, but Tego, Inc.’s Stephanie Podgor stole the show with a musical performance for her 90-second presentation. 👩🏫 The top-attended education sessions included topics such as RFID, machine vision, supply chain automation, retail customer experience solutions, and new POS tech. 🚀 Finally, the event ended with a night out at the Kennedy Space Center; coincidentally (or was it?), on the same evening that Space X was launching a Falcon 9 rocket from nearby Cape Canaveral, an exciting event that perfectly encapsulated the vibe of looking to the future and the power of technology. A big thank you to everyone that makes VARTECH so unique!

Last week, the #TEConnectPodcast was recorded in front of a live audience for their annual #VARTECH2024 ep. This time, with the help of James Korte, the topic was websites and social media and what they say about a business. What makes good website design and content? James first identifies core technical aspects, such as search optimization, load time, and mobile responsiveness, before pointing to what “I’m more interested in, which is the creative or messaging side.” 1.    Be discoverable for SEO. 2.   Are you reflecting a professional image? 3.   Does it explain your differentiator? 4.   Are you including proof? What are some of our hosts' pet peeves or common mistakes when looking at websites? 1.    Rotating banner images/messages. 2.   Overwhelming content and too many places to click/go. 3. Consider your web page similar to an app's opening page. What do you want your customers to do first, and what will be most familiar to them? 4.   Stock photos. Get authentic images from actual customers/installs for your site, or explore some novel AI-created images. 5.   Routine maintenance. Look for broken links and keep your content and visual feel current and accurate. Should you use professional design or template website software? Get professionals if you can, but if you have folks who can create good content, a template site can work, too. Dean compares a website to letting someone into your family room. “It’s your house, and if your house is out of order…that’s the original impression. […] Keep your house in order!” Check out the full episode to hear our thoughts on social media and our constructive critiques of a few websites submitted by attendees! VARTECH 2024 was about honoring the legacy of our founder Steve Cuntz. Steve took control of United Radio in 1992, renaming it BlueStar and forging a new path in the specialty electronics industry. His leadership and vision resulted in a thriving global organization with hundreds of staff members across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Mexico, and EMEA. Steve’s entrepreneurial spirit continues to inspire the BlueStar global team. “It’s a real honor to be a member of this industry, this channel.” Thank you to our family at Ciné-Cast for the amazing tribute piece.
