Over the weekend, we learned of a distressing incident in our community…the Pride crosswalks across Petrolia (including CEEH of Bluewater Health's Pride crosswalk) were vandalized. These acts of hate and intolerance do not reflect the values of Bluewater Health. We want to be clear: we do not tolerate this type of action, and we stand with our 2SLGBTQ2A+ staff, patients, and community members. At Bluewater Health, we are committed to fostering an environment that upholds equity, diversity, and inclusion. Our goal is to create a safe space where everyone can proudly say, "I belong." A shoutout to Bluewater Health's Security and Facilities team, who were notified Sunday morning of the damage and arranged to have it cleaned up by Sunday afternoon. Together, we will build a more inclusive and welcoming space for all. #NoSpaceForHate #WeAreBWH

Yesterday, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) apologized for its role and the role of the medical profession in the harms caused to Indigenous Peoples in the health system, both through action and inaction. Bluewater Health stands with the CMA in offering a sincere apology to Indigenous peoples for the harms caused by the medical profession. We acknowledge the painful history of systemic racism and cultural insensitivity that has marginalized Indigenous patients, families, and communities, leading to mistrust in healthcare. The CMA's public apology is an important step toward reconciliation, and we join them in the commitment to rebuilding trust. At Bluewater Health, we are dedicated to advancing Indigenous health by actively listening, learning, and improving the cultural competency of our team. Our goal is to provide care that respects Indigenous knowledge, healing practices, and histories, while addressing the trauma that many Indigenous individuals carry. We encourage everyone to watch the CMA’s public apology and engage with this essential dialogue. 🔗 Full apology and news release: CMA Apology https://buff.ly/3MSaHmb 🎥 Watch the apology recording: https://buff.ly/3zsRBQv
