Bockstael Construction Proposal & Marketing Manager

Enjoyed our recent tour of the CancerCare redevelopment project, led by Aaron Dyck, Nick Bockstael, and Weber Costa. It’s always incredible to see first-hand the transformative work happening on the ground. These tours aren't just informative—they're deeply inspiring. They remind us of the real impact our projects have on the community, especially when we're building spaces that contribute to healthcare and healing. Proud to be part of a team dedicated to building spaces that make a difference as Manitoba’s Builder. #BockstaelConstruction

Our valued internship partner, Bockstael Construction, shared these wonderful words about our recent Human Resource Management graduate, Omotolani's time with their HR team. "Omotolani joined our HR team at Bockstael Construction for a 4-week internship (August 26-September 20, 2024). During this time, she collaborated with the HR team to work on a project for our 2024 Performance Review process. In addition to this project she completed various HR administrative tasks, including updating spreadsheets, employee files and helping the team wherever needed.   Omotolani’s positive attitude, willingness to learn and friendly demeanor are a welcome addition to the team. The knowledge, skills, and abilities she gained through the PACE program, combined with her previous work experience, allowed her to be able to contribute on a multi-faceted project in a short amount of time. Additionally, we are happy to announce, that she has been hired on to continue working in HR with Bockstael Construction. She has shown that she has a bright future in Human Resources and Payroll." Development Manager at Longboat

This is just the beginning as we continue to find ways to build quality housing in a fast and cost-effective manner. Innovation and efficiency are things we stress every day with our team. We look forward to implementing new ideas on the next few projects as well. Ted Geddert and his team at Holz are experts at helping us deliver on this. As are Bockstael Construction, Cibinel Architecture Ltd, and the rest of our team. The Canopy project in Bonavista will be leasing in 2025. Details to follow shortly.

While I wish there was more overtaking in Formula 1 racing, I have come to understand that F1’s predictability is part of its beauty. Something so hard, like winning a race, can become boring, like Monaco. Most developer/builder partners prefer the predictable pace of F1 over top fueler ¼ mile speed. There are many components that contribute to F1 Team success. The car, the technology, the measuring, and the duration & timing of the pit stop have almost as much to do with TEAM success as the driver. On my F1 enlightening road trip, I wondered if I should even allow myself to enjoy a sport that guzzles gas. Cars that now sip instead of guzzle. Builders who value sustainable tree harvest. We thought we were doing pretty good at HOLZ. Then came the month long time study results. Students from Price Faculty of Engineering and the UM Architecture program provided a 24 page summary. The attached video with Bockstael Construction and Longboat shows an almost 12,000 square feet of floor installed in 14 hours, walls in another 19 hours, all with a tiny crew of young framers, sprinkled with a couple of seasoned vets. We used this data to encourage our crew during a rainstorm last week. We probably should have taken the day off, and everyone including me wanted to go home, but we promised our client Pretium Projects Ltd. Colleen Sklar that the Daycare would be up that day. Moreover, I really wanted to prove something to our own team. Data and Math give us pace predictability, but our pit stops still need a lot of work. A Daycare that used to take 4 days, then 2 days, was installed in 1 day. In a rainstorm. With bad weather predicted, I scrambled our student researchers the afternoon prior to predict the next day, minute by minute. I knew it would be a tough day and wanted to give our team real-time updates, and spent the day on site (I can’t remember the last time I did that), letting them know how we were doing. Hope came in the first hour, as our actual pace was beating expectations. Then the rainstorm became worse than predicted, with breakers tripping, compressors breaking, mud everywhere, and our forklift getting stuck. We predicted 10.1 hours and installed in 10.8 hours. The soaking wet crew went home with a sense of pride, knowing that they could accomplish what none of them, especially the seasoned vets, believed we could. The owner showed up part way through to thank us and along with the smiling crew, made my day. Plus I got to hang with my buddy from way back who was the site super, and share stories about our dads’, who were best buds until they passed. What a great day.
