Application form: https://lnkd.in/eD5Rf9b7 The BCC invites its members to apply to join the new BCC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) standing committee. Deadline for applications is Friday, November 1st, 2024, at 9:00 am PST (12:00 pm EST). We're looking for inclusive and diverse representation from Canadian provinces and territories, including, but not limited to, diversity in race, gender, sexual orientation, and accessibility. Applicants should be able to contribute knowledge, skills, and passion about DEI in the context of maternal infant health. Applications will be reviewed and considered by the BCC Board of Directors after the deadline on November 1st. The DEI committee will: · focus on health inequalities related to racial health, racism, gender, ability differences, and intersectionality. · include representation of people with lived experiences to centre their voices, aiming for 50% representation of diverse members. This is to ensure the committee has a richer perspective about population health and the positive and lifelong impacts that breastfeeding has on perinatal and child health. · collaborate with and support the BCC Provincial/Territorial BFI Implementation Committee (BCC P/T Committee) on common priorities. · require a commitment of up to 4 hours per month from committee members (e.g., attend meetings, review and provide feedback on documents). Co-chair roles may require a greater time commitment. For more information, read the committee's terms of reference and the BCC anti-racism position statement available here: https://lnkd.in/eMVDur9r If you have any questions, please reach out to bccsecretary@breastfeedingcanada.ca

About us
Breastfeeding Committe For Canada | Comité Canadien Pour l’Allaitement The BCC is a registered not for profit organization dedicated to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding and the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Initiative (BFI) in Canada. The BCC was established in 1991, as a Health Canada initiative following the World Summit for Children, to establish breastfeeding as the cultural norm for infant feeding within Canada. In 1998, the BCC confirmed its commitment to the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and expanded the initiative to include community health services, reflecting the continuum of care. The BCC’s BFI standards provide evidence-informed best practice for all mothers and babies around infant feeding. As the national authority for the BFI, the BCC is committed to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding and informed decision-making regarding the use of human milk substitutes. Mandate: The BCC is the national authority for the BFI with the mandate of overseeing the implementation, assessment and monitoring of BFI in Canada and to ensure compliance with the BCC’s BFI standards in BFI designated facilities. Our Vision: Canadian children are breastfed. The key areas of focus for the BCC to achieve this vision are to: - promote maternal and infant health by increasing breastfeeding exclusivity up to six months and duration rates up to age two years and beyond - increase the number of Canadian facilities that meet the standards for BFI assessment - integrate BFI in HSO/Accreditation Canada applicable standards for hospitals and community health services - strengthen relationships with federal and provincial/ territorial governments, professional associations involved with maternal-child health and health equity and with international organizations
