One of the most challenging aspects of owning a business is how to successfully transition it to the next owner. Whether it's a family business where a child, sibling, or grandchild is taking over, or maybe it's a large corporation, there are many issues that will affect the transaction. Making sure your investment is properly valued, and you are able to maximize your return on the valuation, while at the same time treating all parties fairly is a complex process. To help address these issues, the Brooks Newell Region will be holding a Farm & Business Succession Workshop on Thursday, November 14th. This full day event will provide valuable information on the technical aspects of successful business transition, including the legal, financial, and insurance ramifications. Importantly, we will also be exploring strategies to openly communicate and resolve conflict in a proactive and collaborative manner with those who will be carrying on your legacy. Elaine Froese, CSP who is a leader in guiding farm family communications, will help facilitate the workshop. An award winning speaker, Elaine has made presentations across Canada, the US and Europe where she shares simple, practical, and actionable tools for business owners to tackle the tough issues when it comes to business transition. To help guide you through the tools and processes, Elaine will be joined on stage by our panel of experts including, Justin Latrace, Carla McCallum, Derek Ryckman, PFP®, BBA, Reid Wilkie, and Ray Zadrey. Doerksen Brothers named Alberta’s 2024 Outstanding Young Farmers! The Doerksens, fourth-generation farmers, work with their family to run a significant cattle operation near Gem. Their company, Gemstone Grass Fed Beef not only has an online store but also has been running a vendor station at Calgary Farmers Market West since 2022! Each of the brothers have different strengths and areas of focus, coming together to manage their family operation. Practicing regenerative agriculture, the Doerksen brothers have grown the local farm and brand massively. Congratulations to the Doerksens on being named Alberta’s 2024 Outstanding Young Farmers! #Newellproud Check out the article: https://lnkd.in/gaG7jww4

We just broke ground at JBS Canada’s new facility in Brooks! JBS Foods plays a central role in the Canadian beef industry. As one of our nation’s largest beef companies, they are dedicated to providing high-quality, sustainable beef on a global scale. During our recent meeting with JBS management, we covered topics including the Brooks Wastewater Irrigation Proposal, access to the US-Alberta beef market, labor policies, and carbon tax challenges. Together, we will ensure that beef sourced from Alberta remains the preferred choice not only in Canada but also worldwide.

Exciting news that one of our IQubed presenters, Rimrock Renewables were just awarded the SVG Ventures | THRIVE Climate Challenge prize at Alberta Innovates Inventures Conference. They received the USD $100,000 award for their on-farm bio-digester project which is a novel approach to using gasses from manure and organic materials to create renewable energy. We look forward to seeing Rimrock advance their process with the potential to see a similar system utilized in the Brooks Newell Region in the near future. Thanks to APEX Southeast Alberta for supporting our innovation journey. #ecdeev #agtech #CountyofNewell #CityofBrooks #biogas #bioalberta https://lnkd.in/gywNNkgC
