Earlier this afternoon, BCA President Adam Legge spoke at the federal Standing Committee on Natural Resources' session on the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX). In his opening statement, Adam delivered the following message: "Canada has a chance to globally step into the spotlight and deliver things that the world needs right now – energy, minerals, food, wood, and more. We must seize this moment – for Canadians and for the world. We must improve our approvals process in Canada to allow us to build the right things for the world, and build them fast. That will help generate prosperity for Canadians and solve global challenges. " #abpoli #cdnpoli

While every other province increased its minimum wage in 2024, Alberta's has held steady at $15/hour since 2018. This might make Alberta seem like a laggard amidst growing affordability concerns, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. This week's EconMinute dives into the inflation-adjusted value of Alberta's minimum wage over time to see if Alberta is more in-line with the rest of Canada than we may think, or if it is falling behind. There is no single solution to Canada's productivity problem. Increasing economic growth and preserving/improving Canadians' standard of living will require a multifaceted approach from changemakers across sectors and industries. This was one of the many lessons at the heart of the Government of Alberta and School of Public Policy's Productivity Summit, where many of these changemakers from across Canada's economy came together to discuss this very issue, with BCA's own president Adam Legge offering closing remarks on the final day this afternoon. It’s the outcomes, questions, and eventual policy actions that are the most important part of this initiative. We are proud to have been a part of the summit and look forward to the recommendations that will come from the last two days of work and discussions. #abpoli #cdnpoli

Tomorrow is the start of Canada's Productivity Summit, hosted by The School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, taking place at the BMO Centre in Calgary. But it's not the end of the discussion. As experts from across Canada come to Calgary to discuss one of the foremost challenges facing our economy, we are just getting started on addressing the problem. Hear from experts in everything from public policy to banking, artificial intelligence, agriculture, energy, and telecommunications on topics ranging from public policy, reconciliation, communications and even history. Higher productivity means higher wages and lower inflation. That sounds great to me.
