This program supports applicants with professional and artistic skill development or business and career development activities. After a rigorous international executive search guided by Arts Consulting Group, we are thrilled to welcome Kirsten Schrader to the team as Public Art Director. Kirsten has dedicated her career to being a cultural leader and champion for the arts. She has held leadership roles in both non-profit and municipal environments including as Executive Director of the Vancouver International Fringe Festival, Arts Coordinator for the City of Richmond, and in Public Programs at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Most recently, Kirsten held the position of Arts and Culture Division Manager with the Cowichan Valley Regional District in B.C. “Public art holds immense potential to unite people, engage the public meaningfully and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our communities. Calgary is a vibrant, creative city where art sparks conversations and builds connections across different groups. Public art is not just a reflection of who we are — it mirrors our stories, values and aspirations as a community. Calgary Arts Development is seeking proposals from qualified developers to create an interactive map showcasing public art in Calgary. This project aims to enhance the visibility and accessibility of public art throughout the city, providing an educational, user-friendly and interactive digital platform for residents and visitors alike. The public art map will serve as a comprehensive digital guide to public art in Calgary, featuring locations, descriptions, images, artist information and multimedia content, as well as the functionality for moderated user-generated content. The platform should be accessible as a web app via desktop and mobile devices, offering a seamless user experience. We're hiring! We are looking for a full-time communications specialist, public art, to join our communications team. This position is responsible for developing and implementing communications plans that ensure broad awareness of and engender an interest in projects, programs and the overall public art program. The specialist acts as a content creator and communications strategist to ensure both artists and the public learn about the public art program and the various entry points they have to interact with it, as well as learning about the over 1,400 artworks in the existing collection.
