Thirty years ago, in 1994, I graduated from University of Calgary. I earned a solid B+ average, participated in a whole bunch of campus activities, and started The Heebee-jeebees - all while completing my BA in Communications Studies. Not a bad run.
Looking back, what that time - and that school - had really given me was a knack for storytelling, a passion for community-building and a wide circle of friends who really give a damn about our community – our city, our province and beyond. In other words, UCalgary made me… me.
And now, exactly 30 years on, I’m proud to share that I will be inducted into The Order of the University of Calgary on November 13th at a fall convocation ceremony attended by my family and friends.
The Order was “established to honour individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the University or contributions to the community that bring honour to the University.”
Thank you to UCalgary’s Alumni Association President
Kate Wong, Director, Community Partnerships DJ Kelly, PMP, Chancellor
Jon Cornish, CFA, and my
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary & Area colleagues
Sarah Hughes, CFRE and Stephen Bellaart. Much appreciation to all!
I still probably should have studied harder to get an A-, but this is a wonderful, humbling and further-motivating honour.
