About us

WHO WE ARE Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) is a passionate team of urban placemakers; we are city-builders devoted to making Calgary a better place to live. HISTORY CMLC was incorporated in 2007 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Calgary with the mandate to achieve the City's objectives for urban densification and community renewal, infrastructure investment and placemaking – both within and outside the Rivers District. WHAT WE DO Over the past decade, CMLC has rebuilt East Village from the ground up. Through public infrastructure improvements, strategic placemaking and enthusiastic programming, we have breathed new life into downtown Calgary’s east end. With East Village standing proudly as a testament to our talents in visioning, redevelopment, placemaking, programming and relationship-building, we’ve extended our efforts into the further reaches of the Rivers District. We have now turned our attention to creating a vision for east Victoria Park through the Rivers District Master Plan.

  • Meet our Placemakers - Jessie Boyle, Senior Project Manager Jessie joined CMLC in 2020. Graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from Queen's University, she began her career with a local engineering consultancy where she developed an inclination toward project management roles that allowed her to focus on the problem-solving and client-facing aspects of complex projects. At CMLC, she applied those skills toward the delivery of the newly-completed 17 Ave S.E. Extension and Victoria Park/Stampede Station Rebuild project. “I’m the type of person that gets a really strong sense of satisfaction when working through challenging problems. So, with a project like the Extension and Station Rebuild where there were so many considerations that added to its overall complexity, it makes the accomplishment of bringing that project to its completion especially rewarding,” she explains. Looking ahead, Jessie’s focus will shift to the delivery of the upcoming 6 Street Underpass – a project that supports the overall delivery of the Rivers District Master Plan and the integration of the forthcoming Scotia Place in The C+E. When she's not at work, Jessie loves to play sports and embrace the outdoors. She and her family stay on the move, enjoying activities that keep them active and energized. • The East Village Master Plan takes another step forward with the launch of Alston Properties' EV606 leasing program. Breaking ground in June 2023, the EV606 project aligns with CMLC's master plan that incorporates ‘active edges’ at the street level, where the development will build on the area’s physical features, community amenities and pedestrian flow. The building’s design will also incorporate heritage elements to ensure visual continuity with the Simmons building next door. Alston’s extensive experience working with stakeholders to create community-specific buildings that complement unique neighbourhoods—as in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, a National Historic Site—makes the company a natural fit for East Village. We are excited to welcome new residents to the 44-unit EV606 project, with occupancy starting in Q1 2025. Learn more about the project: https://bit.ly/3BVwzei

  • CMLC is proud to be celebrating one year of Pixel Park! Since its opening in October 2023, Pixel Park has welcomed more than 50,000 visitors, hosted more than 67 community events, charged electric vehicles over 25,000 times, and featured 19 programming partners in Calgary's Culture + Entertainment District (The C+E). Over the last year, the temporary community amenity’s pickleball courts, basketball court, skate park, dog park, and electric vehicle charging site have been embraced by the surrounding community and visitors to The C+E. From pre-season pop-ups with Calgary Surge, to pickleball 101 with PicklePerfect Coaching, and high fashion runways with Parachutes for Pets, Pixel Park has maintained a steady stream of programming and placemaking initiatives for visitors of all ages and interests. Beyond its playful aesthetic and video-game inspired imagery, Pixel Park plays a key role in supporting the Rivers District Master Plan (RDMP)—an ambitious 20-year vision for redeveloping Stampede Park and east Victoria Park into Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District. As a temporary amenity, it will carry The District through periods of intense construction and development, showcasing the kinds of experiences Calgarians can come to expect in The District. • One of the East Village Master Plan's key placemaking strategies, CMLC’s Art in the Public Realm program has introduced dozens of sculptures, murals, and installations to the area, bringing colour and culture and contributing to the unique character of the neighbourhood. In 2010, CMLC unveiled the first temporary art installation as part of the Jack & Jean Leslie RiverWalk mural program: I am the River by Derek Besant. Fast forward to 2013 and the second installation, The Field Manual: A compendium of local influence was created and installed by local artist collective Light & Soul, Window to the Wild by Curtis Van Charles Sorenson was the third, Katie Green’s Bridge was the fourth in the series and finally the current iteration Touch Traces, by Cassie Suche. Over the past three years, Cassie's Touch Traces—a contemporary and abstract mural formed from over 640 fingerprints collected from the East Village community—has captivated the neighbourhood. Now, we’re excited to invite a new local artist to bring their bold vision to life. Read the RFP: https://bit.ly/3A8Rh9S

  • Last week, CMLC proudly marked the completion of the 17 Avenue SE Extension & Vic Park/Stampede Station Rebuild project. This complex yet critical project, which broke ground in July 2021, saw more than 500 workers contribute a combined 450,000 hours to bring the station and extension to life. Constructed within a narrow right of way between Macleod Trail and the BMO Centre—right in the heart of The Culture + Entertainment District—the project was completed while keeping transit services running for most of the build. A timelapse of the project from demolition to first train on the new station is available at the link: https://bit.ly/403Hyfw
