Sara Monadizadeh, Calgary Public Library's 2024 Children’s Illustrator in Residence, hopes to inspire some of the youngest Library goers to draw from their own experiences - quite literally. By collaborating with communities, she has been able to develop engaging programs that promote cultural understanding and creative expression. The Library has gone analog... for now! As we invite patrons into Calgary Public Library spaces with modified services, there are lots of ways Library staff have adapted. However, we have been here before and we couldn't help but be reminded of how libraries used to function. From manual check outs and paper due date slips, take a step back in time with us as you swipe through these photos of libraries past. "We have to learn how to talk to, and about, each other, with greater respect than has been the case in the past." - Murray Sinclair The leadership and staff of Calgary Public Library are saddened to learn of the passing of Murray Sinclair. His lifelong advocacy for Indigenous peoples and his work leading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission have made a significant difference in our community and beyond. Sinclair's contributions have raised awareness and fostered understanding and respect, and Calgary Public Library commits to listening to, learning from, and building relationships with local Indigenous communities as part of our response to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

Our story starts today, in the analog environment we are currently experiencing. We know this is not business as usual, but what remains the same is the power of community and the impact our staff make each and every day. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we make adjustments and start to bring back programs and services. In the meantime, our doors are still open. We are thrilled to stay connected to the community as we welcome you back. Be part of Our Comeback Story by visiting our website at: https://bit.ly/4hoX6k7 #CalgaryLibrary #OurComebackStory

CEO at Calgary Public Library Foundation

I’ve been named to Avenue Calgary Magazine's Top 40 Under 40 list this year! It’s incredibly humbling to be in the great company of the Class of 2024. The vision of the Calgary Public Library is “potentials realized” – which feels fitting. In 2013, I joined the Calgary Public Library Foundation as the Campaign Assistant (our most junior position) and six years later, I was the CEO. Everyday, I’m driven to help Calgarians reach their potential through the Library – and every day, it helps me realize mine. Come celebrate the Class of 2024 tonight (Wednesday, October 30th) at the Jubilee Auditorium. Tickets are available at https://lnkd.in/dJE-K-Cc.

Following the containment of a recent cybersecurity breach, Calgary Public Library has now concluded its investigation and is focusing on operational recovery as it moves toward restoring full services. The Library’s Technology Team and existing cybersecurity partners engaged a Microsoft Incident Response team to support containment procedures and complete a thorough investigation. The findings of the investigation confirm that while servers were compromised, no business, employee or membership data was affected. The incident was identified as an attempted ransomware attack, which the Library’s monitoring systems successfully blocked. All Calgary Public Library locations are open for regular hours with modified service. Swipe through this post for important information to know before you go. Patrons can check out a limited number of materials (10 items per card) and pick-up holds. At this time we ask patrons to not return items to locations. Due dates for all borrowed materials will be extended until further notice. Patrons can drop into programs and events that do not require technology, such as Family Storytime, Baby Rhyme Time, and Reading Buddies. Libby and Kanopy are also available for patron access. We look forward to seeing everyone in locations and hope to restore all services as soon as it is safe to do so. Further updates will be posted to the home page of our website at calgarylibrary.ca when available.
