Making its Canadian debut at Fairy Tales, this hard-hitting biopic of groundbreaking photographer and AIDS activist Jürgen Baldiga celebrated the beauty of life on the fringes and the heart-wrenching realities of Queer existence in the late 20th century. Thanks to presenting partner RBC, Calgary Queer Arts and Reckless Daughter Creative are seeking Queer narratives spanning the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum. The Coming Out Monologues has been a cornerstone of the local cultural fabric for over a decade. Discover & share heartwarming, challenging, sometimes-painful and often hilarious stories of coming out, surrounded by chosen family in an intimate theatrical setting. Participation in The Coming Out Monologues cohort includes attending a series of workshops led by Reckless Daughter Creative and Calgary's 7th Poet Laureate, Shone Thistle. Workshops include learning the basics of storytelling on stage, a body in space workshop, fundamentals of voice, the power of play, storytelling and monologue development. Since the 1970s, lesbians from around the world have been drawn to the island of Lesvos, birthplace of the ancient Greek poet Sappho. When they find paradise in a local village and carve out their own lesbian community, tensions simmer with the local residents.
