September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. It recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the children who never returned home, the survivors and their families. Today also marks Orange Shirt Day—a commemorative day intended to raise awareness of residential schools' individual, family and community intergenerational impacts. Calian recognizes the vital importance of reconciliation in moving forward, which requires awareness of the past, acknowledgment of the harm inflicted, and actionable change. For this very reason, this year marks Calian’s third year volunteering at Parliament Hill for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
