We're proud to highlight the story of Steven Vaivada, the founder and president of Scout Engineering & Consulting Ltd., an Indigenous-owned and operated firm dedicated to supporting First Nations and fostering meaningful collaboration with Indigenous communities. Steven recognized a critical gap—many Indigenous communities still lack essential infrastructure like clean drinking water and safe roads. Driven by the frustration of creating a lasting change, he founded Scout in 2017 with a mission to blend modern engineering expertise with Indigenous wisdom.   Since then, Scout has taken on increasingly larger projects, delivering impactful results in employment and procurement for First Nation and Métis communities. Their unique approach—combining modern engineering, project management, and procurement practices with Indigenous knowledge—sets them apart.   Scout has made a significant impact, creating hundreds of jobs and securing nearly half a billion dollars in contracts for Indigenous communities. Steven’s vision for equity and prosperity continues to guide Scout's success, expanding opportunities and building partnerships across provinces.   Truth and Reconciliation calls for listening to Indigenous voices. Let’s reflect, learn, and nurture a better future—together.   #CAMSC #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousStories

This week, we're honored to highlight Jennifer Ménard-Shand, a proud First Nations Ojibwe from Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve on Manitoulin Island and French Canadian from Sudbury, Ontario. Jennifer’s journey is deeply influenced by her family’s legacy—her grandfather, a residential school survivor, and her grandmother, a devoted Registered Nurse who embodied Indigenous culture and healing through the sacred medicine of Cedar, often referred to as the “Tree of Life".   Today, Jennifer shines a light on Indigenous Truth & Reconciliation through her work as the founder & CEO of Staff Shop Inc. & FireFlames Inc., leading with a passion for Supplier Diversity, Authentic Storytelling, and advancing opportunities for minority entrepreneurs.   Truth and Reconciliation calls for actively listening to Indigenous voices. Let’s reflect, learn, and nurture a better tomorrow—together.   #IndigenousEntrepreneurship #TruthAndReconciliation #SupplierDiversity #IndigenousLeadership

Building Economic Wealth Through Truth and Reconciliation: Reflections on Canada’s National Day Today, on September 30th, we commemorate National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada—a day of reflection on our nation's history and treatment of indigenous peoples, and a call to move forward together. Reflecting on the vital link between economic prosperity and truth in our relationships with Indigenous communities is crucial. Integrating Indigenous perspectives into economic discussions can pave the way for innovative, sustainable models benefiting all Canadians. One of my favorite books, "The Reconciliation Economy" by Kory Wilson is a profound resource shedding light on these critical issues. Here are some reflections on the book as we mark this significant day: - Recognizing Economic Contributions: Indigenous communities have made significant and innovative contributions to our economies, offering valuable insights based on a deep respect for the land.  - Integrating Indigenous Wisdom: By embracing sustainable and holistic approaches, we can develop economic models that prioritize community well-being and environmental stewardship.  - Investing in Indigenous Communities: True reconciliation involves substantial investments in Indigenous communities, empowering them to spearhead development initiatives aligned with their values.  - Creating Partnership Opportunities: Collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses can nurture inclusive growth and mutual respect. Let's use this day as a catalyst for action, committing to building a more inclusive economy that respects our shared history and enhances prosperity for all Canadians. #TruthAndReconciliation #EconomicWealth #IndigenousEconomies #KoryWilson #Canada #CAMSC
