Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame is still looking for local volunteers to the Calgary area to help us fill our last 6 volunteer positions at our upcoming Casino Event next week! On October 8th we are looking for both daytime volunteers and overnight volunteers to help us fill this mandate. This fundraising event is key to supporting our ongoing operations and without these positions filled, we will have to cancel the event and lose out on a possible $80,000 worth of funding. Each volunteer position is vital for the event to take place, and each position helps us secure at least $2,200! If you are available to volunteer for the event, please connect with Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame at info@cahf.ca for more details and access to the sign-up link! #CAHF #HallofFame #Casino #Fundraising #CharityWork #VolunteerOpportunity #Volunteersneeded #AviationFundraiser #AerospaceFundraiser

Today is Member Wednesday! Today we would like to highlight Inducted Member, David Ernest Hornell. David Ernest Hornell, VC, was a Canadian pilot born in Lucknow, Ontario, in 1910. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was posted to No. 162 Squadron in Iceland during World War II. On June 24, 1944, while leading an anti-submarine patrol, Hornell’s aircraft came under heavy fire from a German U-boat. Despite severe damage and a blazing engine, he skillfully attacked and sank the U-boat before crash landing the aircraft in rough seas. Hornell and his crew endured 21 hours in freezing waters, during which he showed remarkable leadership and courage, but tragically died from exhaustion after being rescued. For his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, the first to a Canadian airman in WWII, and was inducted into Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame in 1974. If you know an outstanding individual or organization that should be recognized in Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame, please visit our website for information on how to nominate. #CAHF #Aviation #archives #collection #Portrait #History #HallofFame #Induction #InductedMember #BeltofOrion #AwardforExcellence
