CME is closely following Canada’s announcement of lower immigration targets, the latest in a series of ad-hoc changes to Canada immigration programs. We continue to call on the federal government to undertake a full modernization of Canada’s immigration and Temporary Foreign Worker Programs to ensure that manufacturers have access to a talent pool equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for long-term growth. https://lnkd.in/gF-YQ_n9

💸 Bank of Canada Rate Cuts Bring Relief to Manufacturing – What’s Next? 💸 The Bank of Canada’s ongoing interest rate cuts are easing borrowing costs, giving a much-needed boost to rate-sensitive sectors like manufacturing. While output is expected to dip by 2.0% this year, the outlook for 2025 is brighter, with a projected growth of 2.2%. Join CME’s webinar this afternoon for an in-depth economic outlook and learn how these trends could impact your business. Don’t miss out! 📍 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gH_nRBHv

Earlier this year legislators created - at the last minute - new greenwashing rules within Canada’s Competition Act. These unclear and heavy-handed rules were developed without industry consultation and may disincentivize manufactures from making and communicating about green investments. A bad process resulted in bad policy that should be repealed ⬇️
The recent ‘Greenwashing’ amendments to Canada's Competition Act are ambiguous, heavy-handed provisions that may discourage environmental and climate investments by manufacturers. The amendments have created vague new standards underpinned by a reverse onus provision that will create significant new legal, compliance and reputational risks for manufacturers. CME strongly believes the amendments should be repealed and that the government should work with manufacturers to develop a balanced approach to environmental transparency that supports sustainability and growth. That's why CME has summarized the issue in the following slides to help manufacturers tell their story about why it’s getting harder and harder to do business in Canada. Join CME in advocating for a balanced approach. Read our full position and learn why we need change now: https://lnkd.in/g6scCnzQ #Sustainability #Manufacturing #CdnPoli #Greenwashing #CompetitionAct

Glad to have CME shining a light on the red tape and regulatory barriers of Canadian companies. Also, see page 14 for a short feature of Botanical PaperWorks - Seed Paper Company and our on-going challenges with obtaining phytosanitary certificates fast enough to satisfy our customers' needs for speedy delivery. Thanks Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters for including us in your report. Hopefully it leads to change.
CME's much-anticipated red tape and regulatory barriers report - Regulate Better, Grow Faster - was released this morning. More than 300 manufacturers answered the call for input and the results show that Canada is caught up in a crisis of red tape that is blocking manufacturing growth. What's more, Canada’s regulatory problems are getting worse: 71% of manufacturers said regulations have become more burdensome over the last three years, and 77% indicated that if regulatory compliance costs were reduced, they would reallocate the savings to capital improvements such as plant expansions, facility upgrades, and new equipment. In other words, red tape is impeding business investment that would improve manufacturing productivity. Read the full report and see CME's recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/g2iAkUs3 Thank you to our partners EY and Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada FHCP.

With the 25% tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum products coming into effect today, CME is encouraged that the government has responded to our calls for flexibility in implementation and has developed a remission process to allow targeted tariff relief for manufacturers as they adjust their supply chains. We will continue to work closely with our members and the government to ensure the new remission process is accessible and efficient for manufacturers. Details on the remission process can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gQ-z2g9d
