Canadian North is proud to be an airline led by Shelly De Caria, our President & CEO, on International Women’s Day and every day. Shelly exemplifies Canadian North’s core values and unwavering commitment to its Inuit roots and community investment. That includes supporting women and girls in all careers, walks of life and cultures. Recognizing this year’s theme of Accelerate Action falls on all of us to ensure opportunities, ambitions and dreams are realized for everyone. “Hearing my daughter’s pride when she talks about her mom being a President & CEO is music to my ears but it also reminds me of how important my role is,” Shelly says. “The next generation needs us to lead by example and keep making progress for true gender equality and representation.” Read more about Shelly’s dedication to community involvement: https://lnkd.in/gBsN5j3m ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ−ᑯᑦ ᐅᐱᒍᓱᑉᐳᑦ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓕᕆᔨᐅᒋᐊᔅᓴ ᐊᐅᓚᑕᐅᓪᓗᑎᑦ ᓯᐊᓕ ᑎ ᑲᕆᐊ−ᒧᑦ, ᐊᖏᔪᖅᑳᕗᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᔨᒋᔭᕗᑦ, ᐅᓪᓗᒥ ᓄᓇᕐᔪᐊᓕᒫᒥᒃ ᐊᕐᓇᐃᑦ ᐅᓪᓗᖓᓂ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᖃᐅᑕᒫᖅ. ᓯᐊᓕ ᓇᓗᓇᐃᖅᓯᓯᒪᕗᑦ ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ−ᑯᑦ ᐱᒻᒪᕆᐅᒋᔭᖏᓐᓂ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᖏᖅᓯᒪᑦᑎᐊᖅᑐᑎᒃ ᐅᕙᒍᑦ ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᑐᓐᖓᕕᖏᓐᓂ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓂ ᑮᓇᐅᔭᓕᐅᕈᑕᐅᓇᓱᑦᑐᓄᑦ. ᐃᓚᖃᖅᑐᓂ ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑐᐃᓂᕐᒥᒃ ᐊᕐᓇᓂᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᕐᓇᓗᑲᕐᓂᒃ ᖃᓄᐃᑦᑐᑐᐃᓐᓇᑦᑎᐊᓂᒃ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔮᖃᖅᑐᑦ, ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᔪᓕᒫᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓕᖅᑯᓯᕆᔭᐅᔪᓂᒃ. ᐃᓕᓴᕆᓗᒍ ᑕᒫᓂ ᐊᕐᕌᒍᒥ ᐱᔾᔪᑕᐅᓂᐊᖅᑐᖅ ᓱᑲᒃᑎᒋᐊᖅᑎᑦᑎᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᔾᔭᐃᓂᖅ ᐅᕙᑦᑎᓐᓄᓕᒫᖅ ᑐᕌᖓᒻᒪᑦ ᐱᕕᒃᓴᖃᖅᑎᑦᑎᓂᕐᒥᒃ, ᐱᔪᒪᓂᕆᔭᐅᔪᓂᒃ ᐊᒻᒪ ᑲᔪᓯᑎᑦᑎᑦᑎᐊᕈᒪᓂᕐᒥᒃ ᐅᔾᔨᕆᔭᐅᔪᑦ ᑭᒃᑯᓕᒫᓄᑦ. “ᑐᓴᕋᓐᓈᖅᑐᒍ ᐸᓂᒐ ᐅᖃᐅᓯᖃᖅᑎᓪᓗᒍ ᐊᓈᓇᒥᓂ ᐅᐱᒍᓱᑦᑐᓂ ᐊᖏᔪᖅᑳᖑᓂᖓᓄᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᔨᐅᓂᖓᓄᓪᓗ ᐅᕙᓐᓄᑦ ᐃᓐᖏᐅᓯᑯᓘᔮᖅᑐᖅ, ᑭᓯᐊᓂ ᐃᖅᑲᐃᑎᑦᑎᓪᓗᓂ ᐅᕙᓐᓂ ᖃᓄᖅ ᑲᒪᒋᔭᕋ ᐱᒻᒪᕆᐊᓘᒻᒪᑦ,” ᓯᐊᓕ ᐅᖃᖅᑐᓂ. “ᑭᖑᕚᔅᓴᕗᑦ ᓯᕗᒃᑲᖅᑕᐅᔭᕆᐊᖃᕐᒪᑕ ᐆᑦᑑᑎᖃᕐᓂᒃᑯᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᑲᔪᓯᑦᑎᐊᖏᓐᓇᕐᓗᑕᓗ ᓱᓕᔪᒥᒃ ᐊᕐᓇᐃᑦ/ᐊᖑᑎᑦ ᐊᔾᔨᒌᑎᑕᐅᓂᖏᓐᓂ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᑭᒡᒐᖅᑐᐃᓂᒃᑯᑦ.”

As Manager Northern Hamlets – East Airports and Cargo Leadership, Natalie oversees our 11 eastern communities and all aspects of their operations. She relishes her role supporting the frontline employees working to provide the essential services that make life better in their communities. Kelsey Smith is one of the inspiring women who help keep our airline running, and we’re shining a spotlight on her for Women in Aviation Week. There weren’t many women in management in the aviation industry when Kelsey joined it in 2007. With the support of a senior manager, she built skills and confidence at Canadian North. Now as our Manager Northern Hamlets, Kelsey manages eight locations with 85 employees, who handle everything from checking in a passenger, to loading and unloading cargo and baggage, to de-icing the aircraft. Kelsey advises other women interested in aviation, “Reach for the sky as there is no limit. Ask for help, and find someone who can mentor you.” ᑭᐅᓪᓯ ᓯᒥᑦ ᐃᓚᒋᔭᐅᔪᖅ ᐱᔪᒪᓂᖃᑦᑎᐊᖅᑐᓂᑦ ᐊᕐᓇᓂᑦ ᐃᑲᔪᖃᑦᑕᖅᑐᖅ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᕗᑦ ᐃᖏᕋᐃᓇᖅᑐᓂ, ᐊᒻᒪ ᑕᑯᔅᓴᐅᓂᖃᑦᑎᐊᓚᐅᖅᑐᖅ ᐊᕐᓇᓂ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓕᕆᓂᕐᒥᑦ ᐱᓇᓱᐊᕈᓯᖓᓂ. ᐊᒥᓲᓚᐅᖏᑦᑐᑦ ᐊᕐᓇᐃᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᔨᓃᑦᑐᓂᑦ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓕᕆᓂᕐᒥᑦ ᑭᐅᓪᓯ ᐃᓚᒋᔭᐅᓕᕐᖓᑦ 2007−ᒥᑦ. ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑕᐅᓪᓗᓂ ᐊᖏᔪᖅᑳᒧᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᔨᒧᑦ, ᐱᕈᖅᑎᑦᑎᓚᐅᖅᑐᖅ ᖃᐅᔨᒪᓂᐅᔪᓂᑦ ᐊᒻᒪ ᖁᓚᖏᓂᕐᒥᑦ ᐅᕙᓂ ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ. ᒫᓐᓇ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᔨᐅᓕᖅᑐᓂ ᐅᑭᐅᑕᖅᑐᒥ ᕼᐊᒻᒪᓚᓄᑦ, ᑭᐅᓪᓯ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᖃᑦᑕᖅᑐᖅ ᑎᓴᒪᐅᔪᖅᑐᓂᑦ ᓇᒦᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂ 85−ᓂ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑎᖃᖅᑐᓂ, ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᕙᑦᑐᑦ ᑭᓱᑐᐃᓐᓇᕐᓂ ᑎᑲᔅᓯᑖᖅᑎᑕᐅᓪᓗᑎ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᒃᑰᖅᑐᑦ, ᐅᓯᓕᖅᓱᐃᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐊᒻᒪ ᓂᐅᕋᐃᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐃᓯᔭᐅᔪᓂᑦ ᐊᒻᒪ ᐃᑦᑎᕐᕕᓂᑦ, ᓂᓚᐃᔭᐃᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓂᑦ. ᑭᐅᓪᓯ ᐅᖃᐅᔾᔨᒋᐊᖅᑐᖅ ᐊᓯᖏᓐᓂ ᐊᕐᓇᓂᑦ ᐱᔪᒪᓂᖃᖅᑐᓂᑦ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓕᕆᓂᕐᒥᑦ, “ᖁᒻᒧᑦ ᑎᑭᑦᑎᓗᑎᑦ ᑭᓪᓕᖃᖏᒻᒪᑦ. ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑕᐅᔪᒪᓗᑎ ᐊᒻᒪ ᓇᓂᓯᓗᑎ ᑭᓇᑐᐃᓐᓇᕐᒥ ᐃᓕᓐᓂᑦ ᐃᑲᔪᕈᓐᓇᖅᑐᒥᑦ.”

Bernadette Kirk is one of the incredible women who help keep our airline running, and she’s in the spotlight for Women in Aviation Week. As our Senior Director, Standards and Special Projects, Bernadette works with the Cargo and Airport Services team to streamline operations for our frontline staff. “When staff are equipped to do their jobs well, it leads to safer operations and a better overall experience,” she says. “It’s great to see how much of a difference we can make together.” Bernadette encourages women to consider a role in aviation, saying “Embrace your passion and don’t hesitate to step into leadership roles. Canadian North’s commitment to promoting the culture, people and economic opportunities throughout the North brought us to the Aqsarniit Trade Show & Conference February 17-20. This Arctic-led event took place in Ottawa, and we were proud to be one of the Official Airline Sponsors. With more 150 exhibitors and 1,000 delegates, the event connected the communities of Inuit Nunangat with each other and with southern business interests and encouraged meaningful collaboration. Our support and presence at the event reinforced our commitment to economic growth in the communities we serve. Congratulations to the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce and ᒪᑭᕝᕕᒃ - Makivvik on a successful inaugural event. We look forward to participating in 2027. As we celebrate National Aviation Day on February 23, we celebrate the Canadian North employees who work daily to keep our operations and aircraft running safely and smoothly. National Aviation Day, held annually on February 23, is celebrated because that’s the day in 1909 when J.A.D. McCurdy piloted the first flight in Canada, in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. From pilots and ground crew to flight operations, operational control centre, cargo and maintenance teams, our team members play a vital role in making the essential passenger, cargo and charter services we provide as safe as they are smooth. Our team makes sure safety is the backbone of our operations. And they make sure safety is more than a priority, but the beating rhythm of their day. Video Clip: Canadian North President & CEO Shelly De Caria describes how safety is the backbone of our operations. ᖁᕕᐊᓱᒍᑎᖃᖅᑎᓪᓗᑕ ᑲᓇᑕᒥ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᑦᑰᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐅᓪᓗᖓᓂ ᕕᕝᕗᐊᕆ 23, ᖁᕕᐊᓱᒍᑎᒋᔭᕗᑦ ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑎᖏᑦ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᖃᐅᑕᒫᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᕆᔭᕗᑦ ᐊᒻᒪ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓂᑦ ᐊᑦᑕᓇᖏᑎᑦᑎᓪᓗᑎ ᐊᒻᒪ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖃᑦᑎᐊᖅᑐᑎ. ᑲᓇᑕᒥ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᑦᑰᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐅᓪᓗᖓ, ᐊᕐᕌᒍᑕᒫᑕᖅᑐᖅ ᕕᕝᕗᐊᕆᒥ 23, ᖁᕕᐊᓱᒍᑎᒋᔭᐅᕙᑦᑐᖅ ᐱᔾᔪᑎᒋᓪᓗᒍ ᑖᓐᓇ ᐅᓪᓗᕆᒻᒪᒍ 1909−ᒥᑦ J.A.D. ᒪᒃᑰᕐᑎ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᒥᑦ ᐊᖁᓚᐅᖅᑐᖅ ᓯᕗᓪᓕᖅᐹᒥ ᑲᓇᑕᒥ, ᐅᕙᓂ ᐸᑎᐊᒃ, ᓅᕙ ᓯᑰᓴ. ᖃᖓᑕᓲᓂᑦ ᐊᖁᑎᓂᑦ ᓄᓇᒦᑦᑐᓄᑦ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑎᓄᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖏᑦ, ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖏᓐᓄᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᑦᑎᕕᒃ ᐱᓕᕆᕕᖓ, ᐅᓯᔭᐅᕙᑦᑐᑦ ᐊᒻᒪ ᓴᓇᖃᑦᑕᖅᑐᑦ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑏᑦ, ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑎᕗᑦ ᐱᒻᒪᕆᐅᔪᒥᑦ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᖃᖅᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᐱᑕᖃᕆᐊᖃᖅᑐᑦ ᐃᑭᒪᔪᑦ, ᐅᓯᔭᐅᕙᑦᑐᓂᑦ ᐊᒻᒪ ᓵᑕᖅᑕᐅᓯᒪᔪᓂᑦ ᐱᔨᑦᑎᖅᑕᓂᑦ ᐊᑦᑕᓇᖏᑎᑦᑎᔪᒍᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖃᑦᑎᐊᕐᓂᖏᓐᓄᑦ. ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑎᕗᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᒪᑦᑎᐊᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᐊᑦᑕᓇᐃᖅᓯᒪᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐊᑐᖅᑕᓪᓗᐊᑕᕆᔭᕗᑦ ᐅᕙᒍᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖏᓐᓄᑦ. ᐊᒻᒪ ᖃᐅᔨᒪᑦᑎᐊᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᐊᑦᑕᓇᐃᖅᓯᒪᓂᖅ ᓯᕗᓪᓕᐅᔾᔭᑐᐃᓐᓇᐅᖏᑦᑐᖅ, ᑭᓯᐊᓂ ᐊᑐᐃᓐᓇᖃᑦᑕᖅᑕᖏᑦ ᐅᓪᓗᖏᓐᓂ. ᑕᕐᕆᔭᖅ ᓇᐃᑦᑐᖅ: ᑲᓇᐃᑎᐊᓐ ᓄᐊᑦ ᐊᖏᔪᖅᑳᖓ ᐊᒻᒪ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑐᓄᑦ ᐊᖏᔪᖅᑳᖅ ᓯᐊᓕ ᑎ ᑲᕆᐊ ᓇᓗᓇᐃᔭᐃᔪᖅ ᖃᓄᖅ ᐊᑦᑕᓇᐃᖅᓯᒪᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐊᑐᖅᑕᓪᓗᐊᑕᕆᔭᕗᑦ ᐅᕙᒍᑦ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖏᓐᓄᑦ.

We are a long-time participant and supporter of the annual Kitikmeot trade show in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. This year’s event, held February 5-7, marked its 24th year. The theme of “Ready, Set, Grow!” celebrated the resilience, dedication and achievements of the Kitikmeot region. As the trade show’s Official Airline Sponsor, we reinforced our role as a partner in the region. Our booth at the event helped us connect directly with community members and business owners and talk about job opportunities while we confirmed our commitment to the region’s growth.
