Today marked a significant milestone for the Town of Canmore and Canmore Community Housing (CCH) as we celebrated a Land Use Acknowledgement and Groundbreaking ceremony for 205 Stewart Creek Rise! This marks the beginning of the next phase in providing much-needed "Vital Homes" to Canmore's housing inventory. CCH's Acting Executive Director, Kristopher Mathieu, joined by CCH Development Coordinator Drew Steinhauer, Town of Canmore Mayor Sean Krausert, Councillors Wade Graham, Jeff Mah, Joanna Mccallum, and project partners Montane Architecture and Ashton Construction, gathered to ceremonially break ground and officially kick off this vital project. The 18 unit mixed two and three bedroom development is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2025. #CanmoreCommunity #VitalHomes #Groundbreaking #AffordableHousing

Executive Announcement Canmore Community Housing (CCH) is pleased to announce that Kristopher Mathieu has transitioned into the permanent role of Executive Director. Kristopher joined CCH just over a year ago as a development manager and subsequently stepped up as Acting Executive Director. His leadership and expertise made him a natural fit for the permanent role, and after an extensive executive search, he emerged as the top choice. Congratulations to Kristopher as he continues to guide CCH in its mission to enhance affordability and housing in our community. CCH Chair, Rob Murray, was excited to see Kristopher transition into the role: "When I first met Kris as he joined the CCH team, I was immediately impressed by his deep knowledge of our work and his professionalism. He has done an outstanding job as our Acting Executive Director during this time of transition and is the perfect fit to take on the role permanently as we continue the important work of improving affordability and housing for our community residents." Our CCH Board is made up of members from the Canmore Community, Town Council and local businesses. We asked CCH Board member, Town Councilor and small business owner about his thoughts around the importance of CCH's Vital Homes program. Councilor Graham had a few key points to share: "Vital homes play a crucial role in Canmore's community fabric for two main reasons: 1. Accessible housing ensures that essential workers, including those in primary health care, hospitality, and service industries, can afford to live close to their workplaces. This promotes local employment and strengthens the town's economic resilience. 2. Investing in vital homes lays the groundwork for long-term stability and growth in Canmore. It attracts new residents, retains talent, and fosters a vibrant, thriving community for years to come." . In summary, vital homes are integral to Canmore's growth, ensuring accessibility, diversity, and sustainability for all residents. They form the foundation of a resilient and inclusive community, embodying Canmore's commitment to progress and prosperity. #CanmoreHousing #CommunityGrowth #SustainableLiving

📰 CCH's Acting Executive Director quoted in the Globe and Mail🏔 Kristopher Mathieu, our Acting Executive Director, was quoted in a recent article by the Globe and Mail discussing Canmore's challenges in providing more long-term rentals. As Kristopher aptly put it, "Since the pandemic, people have really wanted to move to mountain resort locations," highlighting the increasing pressure on local workers. This only reinforces the importance of our Vital Homes program and future developments in ensuring housing accessibility for our community.
