To the child, spouse, relative and friend, Here is something I thought would be nice to share (particularly 1 & 5... I'm guilty of both) #1 Talk to yourself the same way you would talk to a friend who needs support - apply that same compassion to yourself. #5 We often speak harshly to ourselves and blame ourselves unfairly. Look at what you do and not what you don't do. You can look at the positive or negative- it's a choice. Having been a caregiver to both parents as well as grieving their loss, there are days (grey, rainy, change in time and weather), that sometimes make it a little tougher on our emotions. Remember to take care of you and know that what you do is immeasurable....every day. #NationalCaregiverWeek #seniorcare #Care4giver #JustBetter https://lnkd.in/eP4F7KDW

As our loved ones grow older, they may need extra care and support to sustain a fulfilling life. Quality senior care goes beyond attending to basic needs; it focuses on creating a compassionate and empowering environment that helps seniors preserve their independence, dignity, and overall well-being.

Over the years we have met many people needing help. The help ranged from simple chores and companionship to holding a hand until the last breath was taken. It can be extremely difficult at times- it's certainly a roller coaster on an emotional level. We grow to love and care for our families as if they were our own...they become family. I am fortunate to have such an amazing team. We work together, find solutions, think of ways to make those difficult journeys a little easier for everyone. I am humbled by the level of commitment , empathy and kindness I see around me. In the last couple of months we lost 2 dear people, Alistair and Mrs V. Alistar was a charmer. His beautiful Scottish accent had the women at the residence wooing all over him ! A true gentleman. Katherine, our caregiver, was his buddy. That relationship was special... (kind of made me jealous because before she came along , I was his buddy). I will never forget our talks, lunches and Starbucks coffee. A wonderful human that will never be forgotten. Mrs V and her family were such incredibly sweet people. They reminded me of my parents. Her husband dedicated all his time to take care of her and was burning out. He immediately bonded with our caregiver when she stepped in. Avril was able to get her to eat when she would refuse with others. The time she spent with both were special. In her words - "I never met such kind, warm-hearted people. There is something about them... I feel so attached. When they need me, I will be there...anytime day or night." I am so happy we were able to help the family keep her home for as long as we did. We continue to keep in contact with both these families, follow-up to make sure they are doing okay. It sometimes helps to talk to someone who has also grieved a loss of a parent. I feel privileged when I can be that person...to be allowed "in". Thank you for letting us "in". 💗 - Karine

A very kind and devoted son that only wanted to do what was best for his mother. He did not know where to start, what questions to ask and what his options were. I spent some time guiding them on all the resources available, what options would be best - from different residences to home care. Having gone through this personally, you understand the emotional, mental and physical turmoil ...both for the patient and their family. Knowing your options and that you have someone on your side is essential. This is the part of my job that I value greatly. Being able to bring some clarity, peace of mind and hear that "sigh of relief" is a true feel good. #JustBetter
Thank you Amr (and family) for your kind words. It was our pleasure to help.

Research shows that an estimated 30%+ of Canadian seniors are at risk of becoming socially isolated. Prevention is key. Help your senior loved ones stay stimulated, active and feeling good about themselves. Long hours of being alone can impact their health. The right companion makes a world of difference. #CaretoCompare #seniorcare #Care4giver #JustBetter

Our usual bubbly Mr M was looking tired this morning. His caregiver noticed some minor changes in his mood. She knows him well enough because they spend countless hours together- she felt something was off. Although the change was not so apparent to the staff at the residence, she pushed for him to get a UTI test. Low and behold, he had a small infection. Glad she caught it before it got worse. When you have the same caregiver day in and day out, they get to know their patient ...often times more so than the staff in a hospital or residence because their sole focus is on that one person. They have their routine, understand the ups and downs and can spot a change that may be of concern no matter how subtle. It's a special kind of care. #CaretoCompare #seniorcare #Care4giver #JustBetter

Moments that put a smile on your face... One of our patients (with dementia) was having a coffee with his caregiver (our caregiver). He was telling her that he has a new caregiver and that she loves to take him out for walks, is super nice and strong. He told her he really likes her and looks forward to their time together and then he adds - you would really like her, she's just like you! Long story short, he was talking about her. She was his new caregiver. :) Another perfect match! #Care4giver #JustBetter #CaretoCompare
