Canada’s energy industry unemployment rate declined 0.8 percentage points to 2.8% in September 2024. Compared to September 2023, energy industry employment was up 6.2% (+12,300). Alberta energy employment increased by 1.5% (or +2,200) from August 2024. Compared to September 2023, Alberta employment has increased by 13.3% (or +17,500). Historically, many of these groups have been underrepresented or underutilized across various industries in Canada. Our analysis of the demographics of older workers in the energy sectors, based on Statistics Canada’s 2021 Census data, reveals insights into their distribution across industries and sectors, regions, gender, diversity groups, and occupations.
