Carleton proudly partners with @Scholars at Risk, an international organization that protects scholars who are facing threats to their lives and liberty by arranging temporary research and teaching appointments at host institutions. Through SAR Carleton, which is supported by Carleton’s generous community of donors and partners, visiting scholars can access resources and support that help empower them to continue their important work and make a positive impact through teaching, research and advocacy in Canada. Mustafa and Mohammad are two visiting scholars and members of the SAR Carleton committee who have sought out unique ways to give back and make a difference within their communities in Canada and abroad. Learn about their experiences with SAR Carleton and how they are paying it forward by reading their story: https://lnkd.in/dH8dsmhr . . . As migrant crises continue around the world, we want to share more about the people at Carleton who are imagining solutions and acting on the issues that deeply affect refugees, their host countries, and all of us as global citizens.

Senior Corporate Relations Officer at Carleton University | Connecting industry to Carleton University's community of accomplished researchers, students and purpose-driven partnership opportunities
A heartfelt thank you to Ross Video for their generous contribution to Carleton’s newly established Indigenous Recruitment and Student Success Fund! This fund is dedicated to creating culturally significant activities and land-based learning experiences for Indigenous students, as well as opportunities to reach prospective students in their home communities. “By supporting Indigenous-led learning and community outreach, Ross Video is helping to build pathways for Indigenous students that are rooted in recognition, respect and opportunity,” said Benny Michaud, Director of the Centre for Indigenous Initiatives. The impact of this fund extends beyond financial support; it’s a commitment to community and empowerment for future Indigenous leaders. If you’re inspired to help Indigenous students access culturally meaningful education, please reach out, I’d love to connect and discuss how your support can make a lasting difference. Read about the latest Carleton Architecture Action Lab project, in collaboration with Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH) and Russell Heights Community House, with support from generous gifts made through the Ottawa Community Foundation and the Sarah and Cary Lavine Family Foundation. “Phase One was all about repair and joy. Phase Two was about acting on the imagination of kids.” This is how Dr. Menna Agha, Assistant Professor at Carleton University’s Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism describes its latest Action Lab project, a collaboration between Carleton University students, Ottawa Community Housing and Russell Heights Community House. Thanks to generous donors, the two-year $100,000 design-build project is now complete. The new recreational space for children in Russell Heights aims to create a safe and inclusive space that youth can take ownership of. Consultations through community workshops, and iterative feedback from youth throughout the project led to a collective effort with their ideas incorporated. They even visited campus as part of the process! Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/euMN6FXh

Advancing and supporting mental health within the communities we serve is a key priority for Carleton. We strive to make a positive difference through education, research and community engagement initiatives, like the Mental Health and Well-being Research and Training Hub (MeWeRTH). Empowered by donor support, MeWeRTH brings together researchers, students and community partners with a shared interest in mental health to carry out practical research and deliver educational and awareness-building community programming. On World Mental Health Day (October 10), join MeWeRTH and Carleton's Department of Psychology for Psychology Mental Health Day 2024—an opportunity to come together with faculty, staff, alumni and community members to break the stigma surrounding mental health challenges.
