Heat is everywhere, and we use a narrow temperature range for living: 16-23°C (60.8-73.4°F) for air and 65°C (149°F) for hot water. In contrast, industries use a wide range: -160°C (-256°F) for LNG, 100-300°C (212-572°F) for food, textile, and chemical industries, and over 1,500°C (2,732°F) for metallurgy. This temperature spectrum presents an opportunity to couple industries with geothermal energy, providing a steady heat source for efficient, sustainable processes. Low-temperature geothermal resources are widely accessible but underutilized. To harness this potential, we must apply the same exploration, characterization, drilling, testing, validation, reiteration, system design, and financing as conventional geothermal power projects. Cascara recognizes this opportunity and is building an energy system that thermally couples urban centers with industry, using geothermal energy as the balancing force. By unlocking geothermal energy's vast potential, Cascara aims to advance sustainable energy transition and create a more efficient, resilient, and environmentally friendly energy infrastructure.o
𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹❄. There is a big part of the world where we need to think about ground source systems in a different way. There are extremes for cooling in the tropics 🌴 and the deserts 🏜 that do indeed incur cost differentials for ground heat exchangers that would become prohibitive for most. If we want to decarbonize a city, what do we do? Think through 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. Return to the Lindal diagram. We can operate #geothermal district heating (and cooling) using lower temperature resources. There are many more accessible lower temperature geothermal resources in this world and they are rarely used to their full potential, if at all. What does it take? All the same bits of exploration 🔎, characterization, drilling, testing ✍, validation, reiteration, system design, and financing💲that a conventional geothermal power project takes. It may not be as exciting as a steamfield for some of you, but the rest of us must go to work too. Where there is no geothermal power, we need to apply will power. Will power to realize that the most expansive potential for geothermal applications is hitting you in the face every time that forced air kicks on. Geothermal is already everywhere. Go use it! #sustainableheat #energytransition #equitableenergy #sustainableinfrastructure #dhc International Geothermal Association Geothermal Rising International District Energy Association Shellie-Ann Jober Julian McDowell Tighe Stapley Mona Abd Alghaffar Dexter Cobilla

Cascaras system enables the recovery of this heat by connecting Heatpump’s throughout the community as the heat sink! Think about that for a moment.
Biggest a-ha moment so far this week. Reframing how I think about cooling. There’s heat and less heat. The term cooling is a misnomer. Thank you Geoff Olsen, P.Eng. for sharing this insight as a group of us toured one of Enwave’s pumping stations, deep below the streets of Toronto. The RBC Climate Action Institute has more to say on this topic in the coming weeks. Stay tune for more…

Can Cascara Energy's district energy technology keep NYC subway riders cool in the summer heat? ☀ That's the challenge we're exploring with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) - North America's largest transportation network - as part of the 2024 Transit Tech Lab challenge. We are among 19 startups selected for this year's Transit Tech Lab challenge, a public-private initiative of the MTA and the Partnership Fund for New York City to accelerate innovation in public transportation. Our project, in partnership with Flatiron Construction, involves developing and implementing an economical cooling system that extracts heat generated in a subway station and reuses it to supply decarbonized hot water and heat to the community's energy infrastructure. If the 8-week pilot is successful, we'll move on to the next phase, a year-long pilot - follow us and stay tuned! The energy world has a major efficiency problem. As Sankey diagrams of global energy flows reveal, around half of primary energy is ultimately lost as waste heat. But these diagrams only scratch the surface. Vast amounts of additional waste heat are generated from cooling processes in data centers, cold storage, supply chains, and more. This rejected energy is often overlooked but represents an immense untapped potential. At Cascara, we're turning these hidden losses into opportunities with our innovative 5th generation district heating and cooling (5GDHC) system. By enabling capture and productive reuse of diverse waste heat sources, our solution: 1. Meets heating and cooling needs with recycled energy 2. Reduces emissions by displacing primary energy demand 3. Improves efficiency of heat sources through cooling 4. Enables a circular economy for energy Our decentralized, bi-directional, low-temperature networks are uniquely designed to harvest waste heat from data centers, industrial processes, and more. Through 5GDHC, this energy is shared and utilized locally, maximizing efficiency gains. It's a win-win for the climate and the economy, driving decarbonization while creating jobs and enhancing resilience. As the world transitions to clean energy, solutions like ours will be crucial. With the right investments and policies, we can rapidly scale our impact. At Cascara, we're excited to connect with investors and partners who share our vision. Together, we can make cascading heat and 5GDHC core to the energy transition. Interested in learning more? Let's talk. Comment or message me to explore collaboration opportunities. We look forward to working together to build a cleaner energy future. #energyefficiency #decarbonization #5GDHC #circulareconomy #hiddenenergy

A fundamental transformation of the world's energy system is underway. In the International Energy Agency (IEA) Net Zero scenario by 2050: ⚡️electricity more than doubles to more than 50% of final energy consumption ☀️solar and wind make up 40% of primary energy supply 📉final energy demand falls by 22% due to electrification and efficiency Source is https://lnkd.in/e8Szx346

Cascara Energy - like to share a wondeful article about Thermal Networks - the missing utility. Cascara is preparing to scale its thermal network solutions from single buildings to communities. Come ask us how we can improve your efficiency with a low carbon retrofit. So we can recover, reheat, repeat waste heat for your facility or community.
