CCBA Executive Director Christine Comeau was in Ottawa this week along with CCBA Board Member Sebastien Paradis advocating for Canadian craft brewers and the need to make the 50% excise rate reduction for the first 15,000 hL permanent, as well as increase the top tier from its current 75,000 hL. Thank you to the Coalition of Canadian Independent Brewers for their partnership and support in our federal advocacy efforts.

Congratulations to Silversmith Brewing Company who was recently recognized as 2024 Business of the Year Award from Niagara Chamber of Commerce. Asked to define what made the panel centre out Silversmith as Business of the Year, VanBussel insisted it was how they are focused on building a community. “Since I’ve been there I’ve realized it is a place of refuge for a lot of locals,” she explains. “I really took that focus, to bring it to the community. Whether it’s local musicians on Thursdays, the art on our walls from local artists, the local vendors we invite to sell their goods on Sundays. We just want to be a place where everybody feels comfortable.” https://lnkd.in/gkDKyaCD
Last week we attended the 2024 Niagara Business Achievement Awards presented by Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce. We were named finalists in two categories by the GNCC; Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Business of the Year This news alone came as a pleasant and rewarding surprise. Fast forward to the awards ceremony, where we greatfully accepted the award for Business of the Year! We cannot be more thankful and appreciative for being selected for this prestigious award. There is nothing we value more than being able to provide a space where all members of our community can feel welcome and supported. We also want to give an extra special thank you to our team, without your passion, care and authenticity Silversmith would not be the same. Being able to give our community as much as we can and as often as we can is what drives us. We have been on a fantastic journey the last few years, that have been both challenging and rewarding, through it all we have embraced change and have come out better, finding our true identity. We look forward to what the next few years bring for us, our team, and our community. Never forget #somebodylovesyou

Calculate your savings! The federal government announced that starting April 1, 2024 the annual increase would continue to be capped at 2% for two additional years and breweries would receive a new 50% excise tax rate reduction on their first 15,000 hL, also for two years. Use the calculator on the CCBA Member Portal to calculate and compare the excise taxes due for your brewery.

Thank you Simcoe.com for sharing about how Federal excise relief will help independent brewers like CCBA Members Side Launch Brewing in your recent article. The recent announcement demonstrates the Federal Government’s awareness of the critical importance of lessening the tax burden placed on Canada’s locally owned and operated craft breweries,” said executive director Christine Comeau. “Although this does not address the independent brewers producing more than 15,000 hectolitres, this is a welcomed and important first step.” The association said Canada’s smaller breweries employ about 20,000 people, about 60 per cent of the industry’s jobs. https://lnkd.in/guAGdvaP
