🦇🔬 Halloween under the SEM! 🔬🦇 To celebrate Halloween, we put a 3D-printed toy bat under our Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to zoom in on the micron-scale magic of 3D printing! Seeing the printing process up close at the micron scale gives us insights into how each tiny layer of polymer is precisely deposited and fused. The SEM reveals how small variations in the process affect the material's integrity, texture, and durability—all critical for understanding the potential and limits of 3D printing technology. Happy Halloween from CCEM! What spooky items would you want to see up close under an SEM? 🎃

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡 Today, at the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy, we pause to honour the survivors, families, and communities affected by the residential school system and the ongoing impact of colonization on Indigenous Peoples across Canada. Truth and reconciliation are essential in acknowledging our history and working toward a future rooted in respect, understanding, and healing. We encourage everyone in our community to take this day to reflect, learn, and take meaningful actions in support of reconciliation. Together, we can contribute to a more just and equitable future for all. 📚 Learn More: https://lnkd.in/g96T7JPv https://lnkd.in/gz6q8Ce 🧡 Wear Orange to show solidarity 🔗 Participate and Support Indigenous-led initiatives: https://lnkd.in/giqiUd4M CCEM and McMaster University sits on the traditional Territories of the Mississauga & Haudenosaunee Nations & within the lands protected by the Dish With One Spoon wampum agreement.
