When women first participated in the #Olympics in 1900, only 3 events were available to them: 🎾Tennis 🏌️♀️Golf ⛵️Sailing Fast forward to #Paris2024: the first #GenderEqualOlympics. With more #WomenInSport, we can #ChangeTheGame and realize a gender-equal reality for all.

Women being spoken down to at work happens in a variety of ways—from being interrupted, to having their expertise questioned, to being overlooked for their contributions. These experiences are all too common. It's time to let go of biases and foster a work environment where everyone's voice is respected and valued. Meet the finalists of the 2023 SWCC Book Awards 📚🏅 This week from the General Category: Shohini Ghose, professor of physics and computer science at Wilfrid Laurier University, is also the founder of the Laurier Centre for Women in Science and NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering. A TED Senior Fellow, she's been recognized by the Royal Society of Canada and featured in a UNESCO exhibit. Ghose is the first person of colour to lead the Canadian Association of Physicists. We are thrilled to share this special Peggy Workwear episode! This live interview with Caroline Mekodom was recorded at #CCWESTT2024 this past May in Victoria, British Columbia. Caroline Mekodom, is a certified engineering technologist specializing in biomedical instrumentation engineering. Caroline's journey began in Cameroon, where her childhood curiosity with electronics sparked her path into engineering, despite cultural norms discouraging women from such fields. After immigrating to Canada and facing significant barriers due to gender, immigrant status, and racial background, Caroline persisted with resilience. Currently a senior customer support engineer Caroline supports medical laboratories specializing in genetic screening instruments for reproductive health. Her role involves installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring these critical instruments operate effectively. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Caroline's essential role in healthcare was highlighted, underscoring her impact on public health behind the scenes. Caroline is actively involved in mentorship, advocating for women and immigrants in STEM through organizations like ASET. She emphasizes mentorship as crucial for rising together and encourages others to pursue their dreams despite systemic challenges.
