As Centerra continues to focus on growth and leveraging our assets in British Columbia, we are pleased to welcome Karina Briño to our Senior Leadership Team as Vice President, BC External Affairs, effective November 18, 2024. Karina is a seasoned executive with 25 years of experience in developing, leading, and delivering results primarily in the mining sector. She is an expert in corporate and government affairs, sustainability and policy development and has extensive experience in community, Indigenous engagement and corporate communications. Previously, Karina was Vice President, Corporate Affairs at Mosaic Forest Management in BC where she led government relations, corporate affairs, Indigenous relations and investment, corporate philanthropy and the company’s external stakeholder engagement strategy. Prior to that, she held the position of General Manager, Administration, Corporate & Government Affairs, at the Candelaria Mine in Chile with Lundin Mining. She was President & CEO of the Mining Association of BC and held several progressively senior positions in the BC Ministry of Energy and Mines.    Karina’s role will be focused on Centerra’s external stakeholder engagement strategy in British Columbia, including provincial and federal government relations, Indigenous relations, and external relations with mining and other industry stakeholders. As we kick off the 7th iteration of our Pre-Employment Training and Education Readiness (PETER) Program, we reflect on its origins. After facing challenges in the past with employment readiness among local high school graduates, we collaborated with the McLeod Lake Indian Band, Nak’azdli Whut’en, and the College of New Caledonia to create a customized training program that meets the needs of both our communities and the mine. The current PETER program began on September 9th and will run until February 2025. We are proud to partner again with the College of New Caledonia and Nak’azdli Health for a two-week Life Skills Training program, covering essential topics such as confined space safety, financial literacy, conflict resolution, and fall arrest. This year, ten enthusiastic participants will gain hands-on experience through a six-month deployment in different departments at Mount Milligan, preparing them for potential employment while fostering a culture of mentorship. The PETER program underscores our commitment to training, education, and work opportunities in local First Nation communities. Centerra Gold produces gold and copper concentrate at the Mount Milligan mine. Copper is an excellent conductor of electricity and heat. As the North American data center market grows, copper will be a key building block in this infrastructure. As one of the best conductors of electricity, copper maximizes efficiency in the transmission and distribution of #electricity. Its thermal #conductivity also helps build efficient heat exchangers, which are vital for cooling in data centers. The inherent ductility and malleability of #copper make it ideal for shaping into compact system components, like electrical connectors.
