Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) remain vital in Canadian workplaces. Understanding the legal landscape is important. However, embracing DEI is not just about compliance. True supporters of DEI foster a workplace culture that makes everyone feel included and valued. There is talk lately about DEI being about checking some boxes and doing the bare minimum. As with most things, there will be some companies just checking the boxes and there will be others that are passionate about it - because diversity brings different perspectives and experiences and that is vital to business. Does your company value diversity or just check the boxes? It’s never too late to do a gut check and change things if you don’t like what you discover. #InclusionInCanada #HumanRightsLaw #ceolaw

Long-term thinking also encourages ethical decision-making. Sustainability and ESG are more likely to be factored in when thinking long term. Why does prioritizing ethical practices over short-term profits matter? It helps to build trust with stakeholders. It also helps with customer loyalty, and a positive reputation, and all are crucial for long-term sustainability. Long-term thinking requires patience, discipline, and a willingness to sacrifice short-term profits for future benefits. Which isn’t always easy. Is it worth it? Yes! As long as you have a clear vision and work on strategic planning to navigate the challenges that may arise along the way. The take away is: ➡️ short-term wins are important, but they should not come at the expense of long-term success. ➡️ focus on sustainable growth, building strong relationships, and maintaining ethical standards ➡️ market fluctuations and evolving challenges are expected; long term strategy helps you overcome obstacles ➡️ long-term thinking is often overlooked and is key to lasting success #success #strategy #longtermthinking #ceolaw

Inspired by the thoughts of our founder, Steve Monk LLB MBA PEng on resilience and other topics that are salient to work and life, today we want to talk about the value of long-term thinking over short-term gains. Things move and change rapidly. The pressure to deliver immediate results can cause companies to focus solely on quick wins. Short-term success is great, but at what cost does it come? If you aren’t thinking long term, how will that impact results? Long-term thinking requires making decisions that may not yield immediate results but that are essential for sustainable growth. While sometimes you need those quick wins, you must simultaneously be thinking ahead, planning and acting now to cultivate the future wins. As an example, this may include investing in relationships with customers, employees, or partners. This example comes directly from the vision that CEO Law was founded on. A company that prioritizes satisfaction, for customers and employees, may not see an immediate return on that time spent and investment in the relationship, but over time, loyal customers will help drive consistent revenue and growth. And satisfied employees will stay longer, decreasing the time and costs associated with recruiting, onboarding and training new staff. Not to mention, when there is more satisfaction, it fosters commitment to the work, conversation and collaboration and people wanting to help shape a more successful future. Stay tuned for part 2 tomorrow… #goals #longtermthinking #forthewin #ceolaw

Another insightful and important post by our founder Steve Monk LLB MBA PEng Understanding how carefree can be fleeting but also important to vitality. Learning how being Care Full is so important - to ourselves, our friends and loved ones and to our community as a whole. This post is great because it’s timely and relevant for so many reasons. It’s something that hopefully everyone can pause and reflect on. We wish you a carefree and Care Full end of summer. #ceolaw #carefree #care_full #learninglife

Carefree or Care Full I’ve been having a carefree summer. Travelling around Ontario. Going to live music. Swimming in lakes. Eating ice cream. The latest carefree weekend involved a trip to Hamilton for a free music festival featuring the Village People and 20 other bands. There’s a video attached. Screaming out YMCA, after learning the Village People approved arm gestures, is definitely a carefree summer night! But I wouldn’t say Hamilton is a carefree town. We saw too many people struggling with mental health issues, addiction, homelessness. And this week at work, like most weeks, I spoke with people who are facing challenges. Sometimes they’re manageable – an injury on a trip to a foreign country, a serious sports accident, a sudden illness, a job loss – manageable, but still filled with anxiousness and stress. Sometimes they’re huge – like struggling with cancer. It makes me realize how being carefree is such a blessing. It also makes me realize that being carefree is temporary - that things have a way of changing. Sometimes it happens in the blink of an eye – like the diagnosis from a doctor that you have a terminal disease, or the unexpected death of someone close. Sometimes it comes slowly, like the gradual spiral into deepening depression. And this realization makes me careful. I remind myself that life has challenges – and the only guarantee is that struggles will come. The only question is when. It also feeds my belief we all need to be care full. Show some care for people in need. Because people around all of us are struggling – and, at some point, we will too.   I’m guessing someone around you is struggling right now. Maybe you can help them. By realizing they’re struggling. By listening. By being there.   If your own life is carefree, being there for them is a good way to add some care. #Carefree #Careful #Care_Full
