About us

We are a registered charity in Canada, and an affiliate to Cheetah Conservation Fund headquartered in Namibia. We are run by a group of dedicated volunteer board members, and 98% of donations raised in Canada are used for programs in the field to save the cheetah in the wild. We also collaborate with Canadian organisations to provide support to the work in Namibia and Somaliland through grants, sponsorships or internship programs. We host events in Canada to raise awareness about the importance of saving the cheetah. We also have conducted classroom presentation. Did you know... - In 1900, there were 100,000 cheetahs across 44 countries, and today there are less than 7,500 - Cheetahs are now extinct in 20+ countries and are on the endangered species listing of the IUCN - Namibia is considered the "Cheetah capital of the world".

Can you see what is under Sunny-Joe? It's a scale! Our team uses this strategy to weigh them, this is part of the check-up process. We realised that Sunny-Joe loves the scale (or maybe he just loves treats 👀). Sunny-Joe is part of the Bandit Group with Mercury, Riks, Turo and Buzz - this crew of five one-year-old male cheetahs are all being weighed as they prepare to graduate from the cub area to our Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Somaliland. Situated in a 1,800-acre forest reserve at Geed-Deeble, the CRCC is a sanctuary and rehabilitation centre for cheetahs rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and cases of human-wildlife conflict. It's Impact Friday! Research shows that for conservation to work, it must include efforts to improve the lives of people living near wildlife. CCF conservation work focuses on combining community development with wildlife protection to create lasting solutions. Somaliland is no different, protecting wildlife and supporting local communities go hand in hand. A key part of CCF approach is building Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) Unit across key areas of Somaliland. This provides the necessary resources for local people in managing their natural environment. CCF helps train local leaders and set-up CBNRM units to ensure communities have a say in how their resources are used. This makes conservation efforts more relevant and supported by those who live there. By helping communities manage their resources responsibly and demonstrate the benefits it represents, this helps reduce illegal activities and boosts local economies. #IllegalWildlifeTrade #HumanWildlifeConflicts #Biodiversity #Conservation #SaveTheCheetah

CCF is celebrating 30 years since implementation of the Livestock Guarding Dog (LGD) program. The latest region with dogs in Namibia is in the Omaheke region. Farmers there remain positive about the LGD program, confirming that the 33 dogs currently working there are effectively preventing livestock losses. The team performed their first set of vaccinations for the year and scheduled the second set of visits before the end of the year. IIt's Impact Friday! CCF's pioneering efforts, innovative approaches and global influence have been key in modelling and in addressing the multi-faceted approach to complex challenges facing cheetah conservation today. CCF and its partners – governments and NGOs - are working towards ensuring the long-term survival of cheetah populations and their essential habitats. The Global Cheetah Summit, led by CCF, took place last January in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for targeted and collaborative efforts in cheetah conservation to secure a future for the cheetah. The Summit brought together a broad coalition of cheetah and wildlife conservation experts and government leaders. Their efforts together are encapsulated in the Summit’s Addis Ababa Declaration: (1) Strengthen conservation engagement beyond conservationists (2) Agree on rangewide priorities & a collective strategic plan (3) Understand the resource needs and identify opportunities to access the required resources. CCF’s dedication and leadership have provided the impetuous for others to follow. #SDG15 #cheetahconservation #LifeOnEarth ********** Conservation Fund (CCF), which was founded in 1990, was the first NGOs dedicated to cheetah research, conservation, and education. Many other organizations and projects have since been created and each contributes its unique focus, expertise, and regional approach to protecting cheetah populations and their habitats, demonstrating the collaborative nature of global wildlife conservation.

Since March 2024, we have showcased some of the cheetahs at CCF Namibia and at the Cheetah Rescue & Conservation Centre in Somaliland. These cheetahs whether orphaned in the wild, caught as a result of human-wildlife conflict or confiscated from wildlife traffickers, each requires the care and expert attention of CCF’s cheetah keepers. Becky Johnston and Nathalie Santerre cared for many of these cheetahs, and you have the opportunity to talk to them directly about these cheetahs and others, and role that CCF does in caring for them, and in some cases, they are able to be released back into the wild. Register today to this unique Zoom online session being help Sunday, November 3rd. https://lnkd.in/ePVRs_BC

It's Impact Friday! One of the greatest challenges to the cheetah’s survival in the wild is the loss of its natural habitat. Over the past century, the loss of large herbivores like elephants and rhinos (known as megafauna) has resulted in the overgrowth of native thorny bushes – a process known as bush encroachment. This bush encroachment doesn’t just affect wildlife. It also reduces available grazing land for livestock, impacting the livelihoods of local farmers. CCF has spent the past three decades working to address bush encroachment by carefully thinning overgrown areas and restoring balance to the ecosystem. CCF approach is scientifically informed, using tools like camera traps and soil monitoring to assess how bush thinning affects wildlife and biodiversity. This habitat restoration program ensures that cheetahs have access to the open spaces they need to survive, while also helping local communities coexist with wildlife more harmoniously and provide more sustainable livelihood.
