A Home for the Housing Sector
About us
Established in 1968, the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association is a national non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening the social housing sector. CHRA´s mission is to ensure that Canada has decent affordable housing for all. We will achieve this by: * Making housing a priority with Canadians * Convincing governments that housing is a sound investment * Shaping the housing agenda across the country * Helping communities meet housing needs CHRA´s key activities include: The creation and dissemination of affordable housing research — Recent research projects have focused on the long-term affordability of the existing housing stock, and on enhancing the sector´s energy efficiency. Advocacy for improved housing policies and programs — CHRA has influenced recent federal decisions to make mortgage insurance more affordable and to increase funding support for affordable housing development. Enhancing the affordable housing sector´s development capacity — Home energy efficiency, expanding affordable homeownership options, and taking advantage of acquisition and renovation opportunities are among recent areas of focus. Keeping the affordable housing sector connected — CHRA keeps members and supporters connected to each other and to important housing news through a range of national and regional events, including an annual congress, policy symposia, and national “teleforums”, and through a variety of print and online communication vehicles, including Canadian Housing magazine and the monthly Update e-newsletter.
