The association between #gumdisease and #heartdisease has long been established. But proving causation, however, has been difficult given the thousands of patients and long period of time required to generate good data. A new Swedish study of community-dwelling adults less than 75 years of age and with a first heart attack reports that over 5 years, gum disease was associated with an almost 30% increased risk of another heart attack. https://lnkd.in/gt36GK4f This is yet another illustration of the importance of integrating preventive oral healthcare in the aging community.
