About us

CHX Technologies (CHX) is a specialty pharmaceutical company introducing a new, high-strength, sustained-release antiseptic tooth coating which manages the cause of poor oral health -- an imbalance of bacteria in the dental plaque called oral dysbiosis. This coating has first-in-class approvals in Canada and the EU for preventing dental decay in high risk adults. CHX is working on expanding this indication to include periodontal disease and Prevora's use in the management of Type 2 diabetes, systemic inflammation and cognitive decline. Prevora is used by hygienists where high risk adults are found -- the physician's office, the hospital serving Special Needs and Complex Needs patients, and in geriatric care. These venues seek to improve oral health cost-effectively as part of integrated care and chronic disease management. There are some 125 million adults with poor oral health in North America and Western Europe, making it the largest unmet need in pharmaceuticals.

The association between #gumdisease and #heartdisease has long been established. But proving causation, however, has been difficult given the thousands of patients and long period of time required to generate good data. A new Swedish study of community-dwelling adults less than 75 years of age and with a first heart attack reports that over 5 years, gum disease was associated with an almost 30% increased risk of another heart attack. https://lnkd.in/gt36GK4f This is yet another illustration of the importance of integrating preventive oral healthcare in the aging community. The non-invasive, painless treatment of gum disease by #Prevora in a senior's center, for example, would be medically appropriate and well received by those at risk of cardiovascular disease.

Living alone with dementia is perhaps the most heart-breaking circumstance in healthcare today. And reported by Kaiser, it is common. Millions of Aging Americans Are Facing Dementia by Themselves - KFF Health News Those older adults who live alone with chronic disease call for a re-think about how we deliver care and to whom. No more than in dental care, is this re-think needed. How do we serve this group using GBT, dental implants and other expensive procedures? The short answer is we can't. Think #Prevora which can.

It is well known that keeping your teeth and regular brushing and flossing make for a longer, disability-free life. For example, refer to: //https://lnkd.in/gzzFKZjd About 1 in 4 community-dwelling Canadian seniors have less than 20 teeth, meaning they have an inability to chew food adequately and are at risk of malnourishment and frailty. Yet these same seniors report they brush their teeth regularly and many go to the dentist every year. Poor oral health is expensive to the individual and the community. Simply because it brings on #frailty faster, encourages #sarcopenia and systemic #inflammation, and is a primary factor for #institutionalization. In a rapidly aging community, it is time to take poor oral health seriously and to realize that brushing and flossing are too often inadequate to manage this most common chronic condition. Use #Prevora. To avoid chasing disease, and to meet the preferences of seniors for non-invasive, easily tolerated, convenient care.

Health insurance premiums for an American family of four now cost an average of $25,572 per year, for coverage through an employer. That's equivalent to employers buying a new economy car for every employee every year. Summary of Findings - 10480 | KFF No wonder American employers are driving for value based care (VBC). And little wonder that the pressures for VBC are building in American dental care, a part of healthcare which deals with the most common bacterial infections in the community. Bacterial infections? Both gum disease and tooth decay stem from an imbalance of bacteria in the dental plaque, which is a condition called oral dysbiosis. #Prevora manages dysbiosis quickly, painlessly, and very safety and effectively. Moreover, patients rate Prevora as very important, very worthwhile in continuing this treatment, and very impactful on general health. Dental VBC is all about prevention, and in turn, #Prevora.

The "sociology" of dental care is that it serves those who are working for larger companies who can afford dental benefits. Yet the sociology of the community is increasingly outside of this scope. For example, here's a story about aging Americans living alone -- no dental benefits but with an increasing need to have help to maintain good oral health. https://lnkd.in/g-XGHYAk To offer much needed oral healthcare to this changing sociology, a new dental care model needs construction. It needs to be mobile, far more affordable, quickly implemented and involve no pain and no aerosols. #Prevora is now being delivered in the community to high-risk older adults. And this community rates Prevora as very important, very acceptable and very helpful for general health.

The interrelationship between poor oral health and #poormentalhealth has been reported by several studies. For example, one UK study found early chronic oral inflammation doubled the risk of a diagnosis of #mood disorders. One explanation is the breakdown in the oral epithelium to penetration of oral inflammatory pathogens into the blood stream. Bleeding in the mouth raises the risk of disruption of the #CNS. Refer to this new study: Probing the oral-brain connection: oral microbiome patterns in a large community cohort with anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms, and periodontal outcomes | Translational Psychiatry (nature.com) Reducing bleeding of the gums, thereby, is an important medical objective. In this regard, the ongoing studies of #Prevora show this quick, non-invasive, painless treatment dramatically reduces, if not eliminates, bleeding in the mouth. With full adherence by the patient, with a desire for the patient to continue on treatment, and without any equipment or aerosols.

A new study reports that #aging happens in two time periods of life. https://lnkd.in/gtgwXwhG In the mid-40s, people experienced a spike in changes to the way they metabolize alcohol and fats, which could explain worse hangovers or weight gain at that age. At 60, big changes came in the way we metabolize carbs as well as kidney and immune function. That might explain the increased vulnerability to the flu and COVID after this age. Poor oral health is largely a function of aging, just like most chronic diseases. It makes good financial and health sense to anticipate the events of an aging mouth, by managing oral #dysbiosis. Ask for #Prevora.

As healthcare transforms itself to broaden access to care and to reduce costs, some amazing new projects happen -- like the largest hospital in Canada opening a new dormitory for homeless people visiting its ER. Read https://lnkd.in/g9aK8i5Z So where's dental care in this transformation? Well, #Prevora is being delivered by a team of hygienists and nurses to high-risk patients returning from the hospital with poor oral health.

More than half of seniors are frail or pre-frail. Frailty is inter-related to poor oral health. https://lnkd.in/eWg4T5GY Yet there are real barriers for the frail and pre-frail to access dental care. Tolerating invasive care when you are exhausted, is tough. Getting to and from the dentist is tough. And paying for expensive care is tough. So how do we stabilize oral health in this rapidly growing part of our community? Make it non-invasive/painless, quick, very tolerable, very effective and deliver this care where the frail and pre-frail live and spend their time. And make it also really affordable too. Use #Prevora. Rated by frail seniors to be "very important" and "very acceptable".

More than half of American adults live with at least one chronic disease. And this fact excludes poor oral health which is the most common chronic disease! New Report: Tackling chronic conditions with preventive treatment (phrma.org) Prevention of chronic disease is a game changer; it improves health outcomes and drives significant cost savings. When we prevent the onset of chronic diseases, we reduce the need for expensive long-term treatments and lower the risk of related comorbidities that further burden patients and our health care system. Perhaps the best illustrator of new preventive medicines are the GLP-1 anti-obesity medicines which are not only reduce #obesity but are also showing benefit for Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. #Prevora is like the GLP-1 medicines. It prevents poor oral health at a high level, and foreseeably it will also reduce the risks of unstable diabetes, near-term #frailty, #malnourishment and other chronic disorders related to oral bacteremia and an inability to chew nutritious food.
