About us
Classroom Champions is an international, award-winning non-profit dedicated to connecting students with world-class athlete mentors. Classroom Champions supports students’ social and emotional learning (SEL) and academic achievement, and provides curriculum and mentorship programs to districts, schools, and teachers to encourage children to achieve successful futures. Working with 200+ Olympic, Paralympic, university student-athletes, and professional athletes who volunteer as mentors, Classroom Champions has provided more than $10,000,000 in scholarships to Title I, rural, and Indigenous communities across the continent. Students participating in Classroom Champions see significant improvements in the classroom, teachers see improved engagement, and athlete mentors learn new skills to prepare for life after sport. Learn more at: www.classroomchampions.org. Classroom Champions was founded in 2009 by Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Mesler, and his sister Dr. Leigh Parise (Phd - Education/Social Policy) with a goal of creating meaningful change in high-need schools as top performing athletes interact with classrooms and share their own personal journey on the social and emotional skills that helped them succeed.

Classroom Champions’ Athlete Mentors are often seen as heroes, inspiring kids and serving as role models. On November 3rd, Nicole Frechette, Todd Poulsen, Jason Zaran, Chris Martel & Maddie Mintz will be our heroes. 💙 These incredible individuals are gearing up to run the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of Classroom Champions. Thanks to their dedication to our mission and your generosity, we can bring world-class Athlete Mentors into schools where students face challenges of low self-confidence, bullying and mental health struggles. Through our curriculum and mentorship program, we can help kids develop vital life skills that will stay with them far beyond their classroom days. Meet Athlete Mentor and 2x Olympian, Skylar Park! 💙🥉🌟 Skylar has been a member of the Canadian National Taekwondo Team since 2013 as a Senior, Junior and Cadet athlete. She started Taekwondo as soon as she could walk and is just one of 16 black belts in her family. Her father, Jae Park has been her coach since the beginning. In 2016, she made her first big appearance on the world stage in Burnaby, BC where she won the Junior World Championships on home soil. Since then, she has made a name for herself in the senior’s division, medaling at some of the biggest events in the world, including her bronze medal at the Senior World Championships in 2019. She enjoys working with young children, especially young girls to help instill confidence in them and empower them through her sport. Most recently, Skylar brought home a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games! We are SO proud of the #ChampionMindset Skylar displayed on the global stage, and can't wait to see the impact she makes in the year ahead with Classroom Champions. 💫

Grateful to play a part in championing the minds of the next generation. Happy World Mental Health Day 💙
Mental health matters. Being there matters. I’m proud to work for an organization that provides children and teachers with a mentor in their corner to serve as a constant reminder that they’re never alone. On this #WorldMentalHealthDay, I can only hope that you know the same. You’re not alone, especially when you have a Champion in your corner. Classroom Champions
