About us
Clean Energy Canada is an initiative of the Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, British Columbia. We work to accelerate our nation’s transition to clean and renewable energy systems. We do so by telling the story of the global shift to clean and low-carbon energy sources and conducting original research, hosting dialogues, and inspiring and informing policy leadership. We envision a future in which our nation has one of the most advanced energy systems in the world, having significantly reduced its carbon emissions by the middle of this century. In our vision, Canada has become a leader in clean and renewable energy production, consumption, and innovation—benefiting citizens socially, environmentally and economically.

Excited to develop the Irving EV network at some of the best stops in Atlantic Canada! These locations have the amenities that drivers have come to expect but are often not available with charging. Easy access, dedicated lighting, security cameras, trash and windshield wash, clean washrooms, c-stores, and restaurants at some sites. The perfect locations to recharge your car and yourself!
Charging forward ⚡ Our Irving EV-charging network is expanding with 16 new chargers coming to eight Irving retail sites in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. With support from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the first Irving EV charging station is now open at our Fairville Boulevard location in Saint John, NB. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gv-meHwh.

🇨🇦⚡️⚡️Burnaby, B.C., is now home to Canada's largest fully EV-ready parking structure—a new condo building with all 1,974 parking spots wired and equipped with an EV charger. “Would I buy a place without a washer and dryer in it? This is going to be something people are going to expect to have,” says Concord Pacific's Terry Hui, calling electrification a "no-brainer." #EV #EVcharging #energytransition #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Canada's clean economy is hiring! Most of these jobs are in industries that have been around for decades — at mines, construction sites, steel plants, pulp mills and manufacturing facilities. These industries have been the backbone of Canada’s economy, and now they’re modernizing and reducing carbon pollution, using #cleanenergy and tech. There are new jobs too. #Jobs in electric vehicle and charging station manufacturing. Jobs in solar panel installation. Jobs in evolving sectors like nuclear. And, jobs in emerging sectors like hydrogen. Find out more about opportunities in the #cleaneconomy: https://neweconomyjobs.ca

“Losing momentum? Not in the big picture,” says Clean Energy Canada's Trevor Melanson. "The curve is not always a smooth line. It’s not always going to be cleanly exponential, but this narrative about slowing sales is a function of the media looking for controversy.” Read the full op-ed from Christopher Hatch 👇 #cdnpoli #EV #energytransition

⚡️💰🤝 Canada is the "global leader" for Indigenous inclusion in the renewables sector, while business-as-usual in other countries are slowing down the transition, according to a new international report. As Indigenous Clean Energy highlights, more than one-fifth of all renewables projects in Canada have Indigenous inclusion, many with co-ownership stakes. The number of Indigenous-owned or co-owned renewable energy projects in Canada is "next to none anywhere else in the world," says ICE's Freddie Campbell. #cdnpoli #energytransition #Indigenous

⚡️⚡️🚗 A new Nature Communications study finds that businesses with an EV charger benefit from higher annual customer spending. "Annual spending rose at businesses near the chargers by 1.4%, or US$1,478, in 2019 and 0.8%, or US$404 , between January 2021 to June 2023 when compared to similar businesses that did not have a charger nearby." "While it's a small percentage, for 2019 that amounted to almost $23,000 US, on average, in spending increases across all businesses near a single EV charging station." #EV #cdnpoli #energytransition
