As part of the continuing journey to meet our NetZero goals, we are pleased to announce that a 40 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system will be installed at the shop to help offset our building and electric vehicle (EV) fleet loads. The folks at Watts Up Solar LTD have been working with us to determine the system size that meets our energy needs and provides a good return on investment.

Ductless Heat Pump Maintenance A few years ago people recognized that annual maintenance on their heat pump was a necessity. Awareness was boosted in a great way by a CBC story profiling customers with units that were becoming moldy. Cleaning and sanitizing is essential. There are however several other key components that require inspection. Dozens of companies have sprung up in Nova Scotia providing heat pump cleaning services. As with any service provider, you will get different levels of service, quality, and pricing. It seems the pricing is fairly consistent for “maintenance”. What is not consistent is the service. We watched a technician who worked for a national company clean an indoor head with a spray bottle of something, without even removing the head’s cover/housing! So, when searching for a company to do your heat pump cleaning, think about what you’re getting for your dollars. Why not get more? Why not trust your services to a refrigeration company that specializes in heat pumps? Why clean something that doesn’t work right and that may require parts that are not available or cost-prohibitive? Why use excess energy running a malfunctioning system? Call for advice any time!
