Cybersecurity Tips- New Course Coming Soon Let’s do a quick review and create a checklist of things to look out for when you’re not sure about an email. Remember that phishing emails usually have one or more identifying characteristics: SENDER - check this sender to be sure the name matches the e-mail address and the sender matches your expectation of someone that would write this e-mail. COMPOSITION - Beware of spelling and grammatical errors or sloppy formatting. Legitimate senders use formal language and proper layouts. DETAILS - Examine the details of the message and if the e-mail is not consistent or coherent, that may be a sign of a phishing e-mail. CALL TO ACTION - Pay particular attention to what the e-mail is asking you to do such as opening an attachment, clicking a link, filling in a form with personal information, etc. If there’s urgency to the email, just STOP. Don’t do anything but consider whether this email NEEDS an urgent response.
