About us
Covenant House helps youth ignite their potential and reclaim their lives. As Canada’s largest agency serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk, we offer the widest range of 24-7 services to more than 300 young people each day. As a national leader, we educate and advocate for long-term change to improve the lives of vulnerable youth. This includes influencing public policy, leading awareness and prevention programs and continually building and sharing our knowledge. As a learning organization, we strive for excellence and programs with impact. More than a place to stay, we provide life-changing care with unconditional love and respect. We meet youth’s immediate needs and then we work together to achieve their future goals. We offer housing options, health and well-being support, training and skill development, and ongoing care once youth move into the community. Thanks to our donors, who contribute almost 80 per cent of our $33-million annual operating budget, we are able to deliver these comprehensive programs and services. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.

Today is World Homeless Day, a time to raise awareness about homelessness and actions to respond to this growing issue affecting too many people in communities near and far. Did you know there are approximately 40,000 young people experiencing homelessness in Canada each year? At Covenant House, we provide more than just a bed. From the moment a young person first shows up at our doors we offer a healthy meal, access to on-site healthcare, counselling services, skills development, educational supports, job prep, training, and so much more. But we can’t do it alone. On this World Homeless Day, we invite you to join us in supporting our community’s most vulnerable. Whether it’s volunteering your time, or donating to help fund critical supportive services, you can make a difference. Learn More: https://lnkd.in/eGRmgygX

Meet Fred Shayo-Mushi, Education and Employment Manager at Covenant House Toronto! Fred first joined CHT as a student and worked with many CHT youth over the years to help them pursue what he calls "post-secondary dreams.” You can usually find Fred chatting with youth about their goals for the future and helping them map out how to achieve them. “I love working with youth and seeing them hitting their milestones as they prepare for adulthood,” Fred says. “This means learning life skills, achieving employment and further education, finding a community of their own, improving their wellness and having a family of their own. A big thank you to Purolator Inc. for your recent visit and partnership with our Employment Centre to support youth experiencing homelessness on their journeys forward. Together with our Employment Centre, Purolator volunteers developed a two-day workshop focused on resume building, mock interviews, business communication and presentation skill development. At the end of the workshop, youth had the chance to interview for positions Purolator Inc. and explore career paths in the shipping, freight, and courier industry. If your organization would like to help support youth employment opportunities at Covenant House Toronto, please reach out to Job Developer Anthony Lohan at alohan@covenanthouse.ca. #YouthCareerExploration #CareerOpportunities #TransportationIndustry #YouthDevelopment

At Covenant House, we work hard to ensure we’re a safe and welcoming place for all. Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honouring the survivors and acknowledging the devastating legacy of residential schools and the ongoing impact of colonization on the Indigenous Peoples of this land. As part of our commitment to learn and understand, we will be honouring this day with activities this week for youth and staff so that we continue to remember the significance of this day. Our food services team have been busy planning a nutritious new fall menu for CHT youth with care at its core. The team created omelette Mondays, waffles Wednesdays and French toast Fridays. Starting the day with a healthy breakfast 🍽️ has many benefits including: 🏃 Helping to improve young peoples’ overall health. ⚡️ Giving youth an energy boost to start their day in a positive way. ✔️ Building community & routine, as youth join others in the cafeteria to kick off their morning routines.
