New Regulatory Amendments to Reduce Methane Emissions The BC Energy Regulator (BCER) announced updates to regulations aimed at reducing methane emissions from the upstream oil and gas sector. These changes, effective January 1, 2025, align with the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, which targets a 75% reduction in methane emissions by 2030 and near elimination by 2035. The amendments, which will affect the Drilling and Production Regulation, Oil and Gas Processing Facility Regulation, and Pipeline Regulation, focus on critical emission sources such as compressor seals and pneumatic devices. Key updates include: Automated Monitoring: Required for equipment with high leakage rates. Increased Surveys: More frequent leak detection and repair surveys for large facilities. Stricter Limits and Standards: Tightened venting limits and stricter design and operational standards for new and modified facilities. The BCER will continue to monitor methane research, technological advancements, and federal regulations, and will collaborate through the BC Methane Research Collaborative (MERC) to support research and emission control efforts. Detailed requirements and guidance updates will be provided in the fall of 2024. https://lnkd.in/gcr9EpqJ

Nine years ago, we made a leap and started a consulting firm. We had three kids at the time and this was a big risk for us. It started slowly but soon we got our first ongoing contract with Allan de Paiva The small consulting firm of just me soon grew and grew, as did our family with the addition of two more kids! CRIMSON Regulatory and Environmental Consulting added our first employee, Shannon Makinson in 2018. We continued to grow until COVID. Through COVID we managed to retain the clients we had and even gain a few new ones. The last few years has seen continual growth with different folks coming and going. Today Crimson is proud to have a team of seven hard working professionals. I could not have done this without the support from Cynthia Cote, P.Eng. and the rest of my family as well as all the hard work from all of the Crimson Team; Christine Kleppe, Shannon Makinson, Amy Clutton, Linda Hurcak, and Diana Meehan
