🆕 Two new workbooks have been added to the resources in the ABC Health Matters free literacy program to empower Canadians to manage their health more effectively. 🟥 60% of Canadian adults and 88 per cent of seniors are not health literate. 🟥 Patients with low health literacy are more likely to make errors when interpreting medication instructions and warning labels. 🟥 Seniors, immigrants and unemployed people have, on average, lower levels of health literacy skills. #HealthLiteracy #HealthLiteracyMonth Read more and download resources at: https://lnkd.in/gTD4SVFP ABC Life Literacy Canada

😃 Last week, Decoda staff attended the Fairmont Wellness Fair in Vancouver! (pictured here, Gurleen Kaur, IPALS Program Assistant ) 🥰 It's an afternoon where Fairmont staff are treated to a healthy lunch and given the opportunity to visit booths related to health and wellness. Decoda was there to promote The Westcoast Reader newspaper and the Decoda library. 📖📚 It was a great opportunity to meet staff from concierge, housekeeping and the kitchen, and talk to anyone to upgrade or improve their literacy skills! 🎉👏 Congratulations to Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County on their award-winning program: Making Meals Together! ✨The program was developed in response to rising food costs leading to an increase in food insecurity, as well as a lack of knowledge in preparing inexpensive and healthy meals. ✨ Learners can improve upon their financial literacy, numeracy, reading, collaboration and health literacy skills. ❤️ The program showcased a strong positive impact on its learners, with 96% reporting that they were willing to try more foods, 100% feeling an improvement in their cooking skills, and 88% feeling more confident in shopping and creating lower-cost meals. #LiteracyProgram #AdultLiteracy #FinancialLiteracy #FoodLiteracy #HealthLiteracy https://lnkd.in/gn2gcFS3 ABC Life Literacy Canada
