Our mission is to inspire belonging in a strong integrated community by empowering newcomers to Canada.
About us
At DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society, we help newcomers and other diverse communities build the life they want in Canada. Our free, multilingual programs and services in settlement, language, employment, community engagement and mental health provide them with information, skills and connections for their journey toward success and belonging. Our social enterprises — DIVERSEcity Interpretation and Translation Services, DIVERSEcity Skills Training Centre and Language Testing Centre — support this work, too. As a registered charity in Surrey and the Lower Mainland with a 42+ year history, we value the strengths found in our differences, and our message is clear — everyone belongs here.

“I want to set an example that will never be forgotten.” Those are the words of local hero Terry Fox. From Port Coquitlam, BC, Terry was only 18 when he lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma. He dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean on April 12, 1980, and proceeded to unite Canadians in a way that had never been done before as he began his Marathon of Hope, to raise money for cancer research, according to the Terry Fox Foundation. Sadly, cancer returned and he was forced to stop his cross-country run on September 1, 1980, after running 5,373 kilometres. Terry Fox passed away on June 28, 1981, at 22 years old. Today his legacy remains, and an annual Terry Fox Run is held each September in communities across Canada. Happening tomorrow, September 15, 2024, the 44th annual Terry Fox Run is happening all over the Lower Mainland. We wanted to share awareness of Terry’s story and the annaul run, which has become a fall tradition in Canada, uniting more than 650 communities — big and small, urban and rural, English and French — in fundraising efforts for cancer research. Thank you to the The Terry Fox Foundation for providing us with this information including the graphic used here. “Do not hesitate! This kind of program can provide the help and resources that you need to achieve your goal here.” Navigating foreign credential recognition can be overwhelming for skilled immigrants. Newcomer women who are also managing roles as mothers while working and studying, often feel alone in the credential recognition journey. The Coast Capital Savings Credentialing Program for Newcomer Women is here to help. Nafise, a beneficiary of the program at DIVERSEcity, shares her experience, “When you are studying, it’s full-time studying. If you want to pass your exam, you need to stop working and focus on the exams. But then, it is at the expense of life and all those things. So, it's very important to find the kind of resources that can help you in the process.” The program not only helped her achieve her goal of becoming a pharmacist in Canada, but also fostered a sense of community, making her feel more connected and supported. Recently our settlement team welcomed students from the Community Support Worker program at SELC College to DIVERSEcity Surrey Community Campus. It was a great day of sharing, and we are so happy we got to give them a tour and share with them who DIVERSEcity is and the services we provide. They are finishing their program in two months and then go on to do 100 hours of practicum experience and we wish them all the best! Newcomer settlement worker Nagham shared some words of wisdom to the young professionals, that when it comes to pursue a career, do so and “lead with their heart.”
