🌈 Happy Pride from Dress for Success Vancouver! 🌈 As Pride Month comes to a close, we celebrate our diverse community! Meet Elias Arce Gutierrez, a shining star who has joined Dress for Success Vancouver as both a client and as a volunteer. Elias was first introduced to us through the MOSAIC I Belong program, seeking dressing services to emphasize and celebrate their identity. From the moment they stepped into our boutique, they were met with warmth and support. "My first appointment was in a friendly environment with acceptance and inclusivity," Elias recalls. This experience boosted their confidence, allowing them to express their gender identity more freely. "Now I can wear skirts, and my favorite ones are from Dress for Success," says Elias. Not only has Elias benefited from our services, but they have also given back as a volunteer. They provide makeup workshops for clients and also helped with a special Mother's Day client event. "Enhancing other people's own beauty is what I love to do. Their smile at the end of the session is my reward," says Elias. We're incredibly grateful for Elias and the positivity they bring. Today, on #WorldRefugeeDay, we honor the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their homes. We advocate for their right to seek safety, economic and social inclusion, and solutions to their plight. At Dress for Success Vancouver, we understand the challenges faced by those who are starting anew. That’s why we are excited to reintroduce the Newcomer Program. Regardless of status or permit, women and gender-diverse individuals that are new to Canada, have the opportunity to access our Dressing Services. During a Newcomer Suiting, women receive casual clothes and personal essentials for everyday use. Most importantly, they receive an invitation to join our community whenever they feel ready. Additionally, we encourage them to access services through Helping Women Now, where they can receive more information on government and community resources to support their new journeys. Join us in celebrating World Refugee Day by referring a woman or gender-diverse individual who is starting a new life in Canada to receive a Newcomer Suiting.

Like Dress for Success Vancouver, our partner Cause We Care Foundation empowers Lower Mainland women, providing them with the tools and supports needed to thrive. They support single mothers in need by funding programs that improve their well-being, economic security and personal capacity. Again this Mothers Day, we are so grateful to Cause We Care Foundation for support of our “Heart Moms” program. Through Heart Moms, we serve 500 single mothers with interview and new employment suiting, professional and personal development workshops, and mentorship that helps build social capital. Thanks to Cause We Care, we are empowering single mothers into the workforce, and creating new opportunities and resilience for them, their families and communities. We know that when mothers are successful, supported, and financially independent, the social, economic and health outcomes for the whole family are significantly improved. Dress for Success Vancouver not only provides immediate support for the single mothers we serve, but creates meaningful opportunities for those who count on them.
