The Alberta Blue Cross has two new programs for health and wellness in the volunteer sector. Faces of Wellness recognizes and celebrates an individual Albertan who is taking the steps within their own community towards promoting and advocating for healthier lifestyles. Applications and nominations may be made online at https://lnkd.in/eD8tt-zT and are open until November 1. The Community Wellbeing Program provides a grant of $1,000 to 30 non-profit organizations across Alberta who are putting in the work to expand the health and wellness of their communities. Today is World Alzheimer's Day! This day is meant to bring global awareness to the effects of Alzheimer's and other dementia diseases, as well as reduce the stigma surrounding Alzheimer's that seniors and people of all ages face. This campaign is meant to educate and increase public knowledge about Alzheimer's disease and dementia in the hopes that discrimination will lessen and communities around the world can become more accommodating. Did you know Drive Happiness offers a Dementia training course for our volunteers? This online program is provided by the Alzheimer's Society and it enhances our ability to serve those living with dementia, by educating our drivers allowing them to provide safe and comfortable rides for our clients. September is Arthritis Awareness Month! According to Arthritis Society Canada approximately 1 in 2 adults over the age of 65 are living with Arthritis, it is important to stay active, maintain relationships and to take care of your mental health to mitigate symptoms. At Drive Happiness it is our mission to keep our aging population healthy by not only helping with transportation to medical appointments but also to community programs and other events. Remember to stay diligent when it comes to your health and support those you know with Arthritis, just like our volunteer drivers, staff and community supports all of the seniors we serve in Alberta.
