Fantastic article in the Globe & Mail on 1120 Ossington, a 3-storey #masstimber, #affordablehousing building in Toronto which went up in an incredible 17 days thanks to using a "kit of parts", such as our cross-laminated timber (#CLT) floor and roof panels. This infill project enhances the capacity of a previously repurposed church by adding 25 deeply affordable rental units. It aims to provide sustainable, energy-efficient housing tailored to vulnerable groups, helping to meet the pressing demand for affordable housing. Some quotes from the article: "We can actually make the neighbourhood a better place, and more beautiful,”... states Andrea Adams operations manager of St. Clare's Multifaith Housing Society, the client on the project. "Oh non-profit, affordable housing, what’s going to happen to the neighbourhood!’ If you were to look at our projects, we put a lot of thought into aesthetics to make them an asset to the neighbourhood.” Luke Moir, project manager at Assembly: “as soon as I’m done [pouring], the first floor, ideally, shows up and they frame it in two days”. And the panels, it should be noted, take up far less space as they wait for workers to wrangle them into place which is perfect for tight, city infill sites such as this. So proud to be part of this project. Kudos to the team! Developer: Assembly Corp. 🎉 Exciting Project Win! ➡ CAMH Temerty Discovery Centre The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada's largest mental health teaching hospital and one of the world's leading research centres. The new Temerty Discovery Centre will be a state-of-the-art facility where researchers aim to revolutionize our understanding of the brain and mental health. 🌲 Once completed, it will be Canada’s largest hybrid #masstimber public facility. With 385,000 sq. ft of space, this 7-storey building will house1,400 staff, will contain research and health labs, space for clinical trials, academic and lecture space, office spaces and a central atrium connecting everything together. The hybrid mass timber structure reduces the carbon footprint significantly compared to conventional building systems and helps to create a sense of warmth and well-being, reducing stress and increasing creativity. The last Element5 #CLT panel has been placed at the Colorado School of Mines student residence project in Golden Colorado. Remarkable executional skills by our friends at Milender White who got these FOUR mass timber hybrid buildings up simultaneously, totaling almost 300,000 sqft of CLT floor and roof plate. #MassTimber is flying at the Kalamazoo Country Club in #Michigan! The Project consists of multiple mass timber buildings - a new 120,000 sq. ft., 2-storey clubhouse mass timber hybrid building consisting of steel/columns and beams with cross-laminated timber (#CLT) floors and roof panels, and #Glulam columns and beams in select, featured areas. Other buildings are single-story hybrid buildings with CLT roof decks. Element5 supplied Spruce-Pine and Douglas Fir glulam based on location, function, and aesthetic requirements. We had to share these shots of work being done at Trinity College. The CN Tower is beautifully framed here by some Element5 #glulam beams flying in the first image and #CLT in the second image. This 160,000 sq. ft., 4-storey mixed-use project is a 350-bed student residence, community kitchen, flexible work and study spaces, cafeteria, seminar rooms, teaching and event spaces and rooftop urban farm for the University of Toronto. The structure is comprised of a combination of mass timber components including Glulam post and beam, #crosslaminatedtimber (CLT) demising walls, prefabricated steel stud demising walls, CLT floor slabs, CLT roof deck and a CLT mass timber and a prefabricated exterior envelope system. RDH Architects Inc. and Mecanoo (Netherlands) are co-designing the project. The building will embody sustainability - where students will participate in and benefit from a healthy, low-impact learning and living environment.
