Today, Floridians are beginning the process of recovering from their second hurricane in less than three weeks. We are incredibly proud of our operating companies and their teams for their careful preparation and unwavering dedication as they assess the impacts of Hurricane Milton, and begin the restoration process. As the frequency of severe weather events increases, so too does our commitment to hardening and modernizing our infrastructure. While storm damage is unavoidable, our companies remain focused on strengthening storm protections to safeguard utility customers' service, working to assess impacts and resolve them as quickly and safely as possible. - Tampa Electric has mobilized the largest restoration team in its history, with more than 6,000 people starting restoration efforts, with safety as the top priority. - TECO Peoples Gas is in the process of safely assessing service impacts across the state. We want to thank Nova Scotia Power and the many utilities across the US and Canada whose crews have travelled to Florida to lend their support. Together, we will be rebuilding and restoring.

VP New Energy Markets & Innovation @ Emera | International Business

The energy sector is complex and highly regulated, so how do Emera and its operating companies deliver excellence today while planning for tomorrow? Recently, I was invited to speak on the Utility Innovation Council and Industries of the Future panel at Mind the Bridge’s Scaleup Summit San Francisco to address this question. This summit brings together start-ups and corporations with the goal of using market intelligence research, strategy and venture acceleration to scale up their impact. Joined by Southern California Edison (SCE) and EWE AG colleagues, we discussed how the global energy sector is finding ways to capitalize on innovation to accelerate utility growth. With colleagues from Europe, Asia, and North America at the summit it underscored the shared nature of our challenges. However, it also highlighted the potential for achieving better outcomes by working together and through the exchange of ideas.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s landfall on the Gulf Coast last week, the communities our utilities serve have demonstrated remarkable resilience. Our Tampa Electric crews quickly restored service— 85% in 24 hours, 99% in 48 hours and all customers that could take power were back on in 72 hours. 115 teammates have now travelled to Georgia and are assisting with their power restoration efforts. TECO Peoples Gas crews responded quickly and worked diligently on the West Coast to restore gas service to its customers. Natural gas service is currently restored to all homes and businesses that are able to receive it safely. These efforts, along with our ongoing commitment to strengthening the integrity of grid infrastructure, underscore the critical importance of reliability and storm preparedness across all our operating companies. Thank you to our incredible teams for your safe and effective preparation and response. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating storm.
