Excited that Engineers Canada is a sponsor for today’s National Adaptation Summit in Ottawa. Now is the time for the federal government to ensure it is leveraging every tool at its disposal to prepare Canada for the reality of a changing climate. That means implementing the National Adaptation Strategy in partnership with engineers, including updating the National Building Code and ensuring federal spending on new infrastructure and housing projects prioritizes adaptation to extreme weather. It also means recognizing the important role engineers play in keeping the public safe, and never compromising on that commitment to public safety. Our sincerest appreciation to our speakers this morning at the #NationalAdaptationSummit who set the tone for the day by touching on the urgency of climate change and the need for Canada to prioritize adaptation. Mayor #Ireland of Jasper shared his perspectives on the profound and pervasive impact the recent wildfire had on his community, and his appreciation for the outpouring of support. Steven Guilbeault spoke of how climate adaptation should not be a debate and that all Canadians should be involved in the conversation on how to tackle this issue. Celyeste Power President & CEO of Insurance Bureau of Canada pointed out that this summer has been a wake-up call, reminding us that climate adaptation needs a whole of society effort. “Climate Change is not just an environmental, economic or safety issue. It is a human issue.”  #ClimateProofCanada
