Our newest Irradiance Profiles feature highlights the difference between 2D view-factor (VF) models (aka infinite shed or unlimited tracker models) and DUET, a 3D FEM model. Read more for details 👇 Recently, there was a LinkedIn post modelling a bifacial system with an unlimited tracker model (linked here: https://bit.ly/3UIOM4j) This model samples irradiance along a 1D line and extrapolates it across the entire row, assuming a uniform irradiance (i.e. the infinite shed). This approach ignores the non-uniform spatial distribution of irradiance across the table and row! To compensate for this assumption, 2D VF models require several empirical factors that modellers must choose themselves for module, string, rear-side shading effects, etc... 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨?? DUET is a 3D cell-to-system model, computing the incident irradiance at cell resolution within the module and therefore capturing the inter-module, module, string and block mismatch across the system. As a result, DUET requires 𝗡𝗢 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀. Instead, our users input their physical system parameters and DUET will handle the rest, including quantifying the effects of rear-side shading. 🥳🥳 This new feature demonstrates the cell-to-system detail within DUET, computed on a per timestep basis. Yes, DUET generates these results at a minutely resolution - or whatever time resolution your heart desires! ☀ Want to try it out for yourself? Let's talk 𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍! Terrain is crucial for accurate modelling of your increasingly complex systems. We're excited to announce that we're currently validating this feature for our DUET Compute application! Not only will we soon support terrain for our early-access users, but this goes hand-in-hand with our CAD import feature for your 3D scenes. It's our top priority to 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 - so let's chat more about how we should implement terrain to best integrate into your workflow! Kibby Pollak Christopher E. The Enurgen team is excited to announce our DUET Compute app is now open for limited access 🎉 👏 🎉. Our DUal-sided Energy Tracer (DUET) employs a finite element method (3D view-factor) model to run detailed minutely, hourly or TMY cell-to-system energy yield simulations for utility-scale solar power plants. There is no power plant size limit for running a DUET energy yield model! We cannot wait to share REAL performance results comparing DUET to traditional 2D view-factor models and measured field performance 👀. Please let us know if you would like to be added to the onboarding list! DUET project quick start: 1. Import PVsyst project 2. Layout power plant and select meteo 3. Input physical dimensions (racking and cell) 4. Run DUET energy yield model New features coming on a bi-weekly basis 💥 . Stay tuned!
