Exactis Innovation is a Canadian non-profit helping the healthcare ecosystem make decisions through real-world insights.

About us

Exactis Innovation (Exactis) is a Canadian non-profit focused on improving cancer survivorship by empowering the healthcare ecosystem to make data-driven decisions through real-world insights.  Exactis and its Network of Hospital Partners across Canada have created the most comprehensive pan-Canadian real-world insights generation platform. As a member of The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) Post-Market Drug Evaluation (PMDE) Program, we are the trusted Canadian partner for oncology real-world evidence (RWE) studies.  We help partners overcome time delays and insufficient data problems that limit the value of RWE studies.  We believe everyone has a role to play in fighting cancer.  This is ours.  High Quality Data + Timely Insights = Improved Treatment Decisions = Better Patient Outcomes

Updates

  • Exactis Innovation: Reflecting on a Decade of Impact Today, I share a deeply bittersweet update about Exactis Innovation. After ten transformative years as a cancer research network funded by the Business-Led National Centres of Excellence (BL-NCE) Program, we must announce that Exactis will close its doors early in the new year. Exactis began with a bold vision: to provide patients with access to molecular testing, opening the door to trials for targeted therapies when such testing was not yet standard. Over the years, we adapted, evolved, and ultimately became a trusted source of decision-grade real-world evidence for cancer care. What we’ve accomplished together: -Built a network of 16 cancer centers across six provinces and curated a databank of over 11,000 patients. -Partnered with Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA) to inform real-world oncology market access decisions. -Showcased the immense potential of a pan-Canadian collaboration in leveraging patient data for the greater good. These milestones were only possible because of the unwavering support of so many. To the patients who entrusted us with their data, the coordinators and PIs at our sites, the Exactis team, our Board, and our partners—thank you. Your commitment made our mission not just possible, but meaningful. As we face the financial realities that have brought us to this decision, we remain committed to ensuring our databank continues to serve research and improve outcomes in cancer care. We will share details about its availability for future use as soon as possible. Exactis has proven that Canada's patients, researchers, and institutions can unite to break down barriers and drive innovation. My hope is that this legacy inspires others to dream big and create the next chapter in cancer research. To those ready to envision an "Exactis 2.0," I wish you courage and success. Let’s continue striving for a future where real-world data empowers breakthroughs and transforms lives. With gratitude and hope, Kostas Trakas, PhD CEO, Exactis Innovation

  • "In rural and lower socio-economic [status] groups, not only is lung cancer more common, it's also more deadly." Check out this short clip of #WhatsWithRWE with Dr. Paul Wheatley-Price, lung cancer specialist, who shares his insightful perspective on health equity in Canada. Dr. Wheatley-Price delves into the importance of The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and the persistent challenges faced by Indigenous communities in accessing equitable cancer care, and how we can work toward better health outcomes for all Canadians. #HealthEquity #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousHealth #CancerCare #HealthcareAccess #Podcast

  • 🎙️ Podcast Highlight: Understanding Drug Access in Canada In this episode, Dr. Paul Wheatley-Price, medical oncologist specializing in lung cancer at The Ottawa Hospital, provides an analysis of the drug approval and reimbursement process in Canada. He explores the complexities of the system, shedding light on where we can focus efforts to make meaningful improvements. Dr. Wheatley-Price also discusses the potential of initiatives like Project Orbis, which aim to accelerate the approval process for life-saving treatments. While these efforts are promising, significant barriers remain, often delaying timely access to essential #cancer drugs for patients who need them most. 🎧 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eZKY955J #Oncology #CancerCare #DrugAccess #Podcast #WhatsWithRWE

  • The poll results are in. Interestingly, 38% of respondents highlighted preventive care as a top priority. But what would a healthcare system that truly prioritized prevention look like? Right now, our public system focuses largely on treating diseases due to limited capacity. Imagine if we shifted the emphasis to preventing illness instead—fewer people might develop chronic conditions in the first place. Preventive care could include things like more primary care, changes in diet and exercise, physiotherapy, stress management, etc. But here’s the challenge: Measuring the impact of prevention is tough because the benefits often take years to appear and vary widely between individuals. What do you think? Should we invest more in preventive care despite the long-term outlook? Share your thoughts below! 👇

Pleased to share this drug utilization study completed by the Canadian Cancer Real-world Evaluation team, in collaboration with Exactis, part of the Canada's Drug Agency Post-Marketing Drug Evaluation CoLab Network. Recent advances in non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment have introduced targeted therapies for specific mutations, supplementing standard chemotherapy. However, it's unclear if patients previously treated with both can benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). This study aimed to understand the current treatment patterns for patients with advanced NSCLC with actionable driver mutations, and to determine the feasibility of conducting a study to compare the effectiveness of ICIs and single-agent chemotherapy, among patients who had received driver mutation-targeted therapies as their first treatment. https://lnkd.in/gkN3jbJ6 #rwe #cancer #oncology #personalizedmedicine Ontario Health | Santé Ontario

  • Thanks for sharing our mission to represent Canadian data, Lester Poon and SOPHiA GENETICS! #RealWorldEvidence #RealWorldData #Cancer

Celebrating Canadian pathology labs. Thank you very much SOPHiA GENETICS team for co-hosting an event with Exactis Innovation for Canadian attendees of the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) Annual Conference at Vancouver Lookout. Fantastic conversations, mesmerizing views and great company. Thank you everyone that came to learn more about our joint efforts to amplify the voices of Canadian #Cancer patients. Many times global #RealWorldEvidence studies from pharmaceutical companies DO NOT include Canada because pan-Canadian #RealWorldData is deemed unavailable or inaccessible. The Sophia Genetics led UNITY initiative is focused on removing these barriers by harmonizing the Exactis pan-Canadian dataset from consented patients with datasets from partners around the world. Together, we can tell the story of all cancer patients around the world to improve healthcare policies, access to therapy, and R&D. #CancerCare #CancerResearch #AMPath24
