Hackathons are a placement favourite for a reason! Taking place over the span of only two ✌️ days, a hackathon gives students the chance to partner with ventures and tackle real-life challenges. During hackathons, students get the chance to validate business ideas, collaborate with industry pros on complex problems, and support their local ventures - all in the span of 16 hours. On Friday, we officially wrapped up the Solutions Lab: Tourism Edition presented in partnership with Ottawa Tourism and Experience Ventures. 🗺 Each group then presented their ideas to an audience and our panel of judges featuring: Traci Despatis, Kelleagh Alexander, Mathieu Grondin and Guy Levesque. Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in the Solutions Lab: Tourism organized by Entrepreneurship Hub, Ottawa Tourism, and Experience Ventures. For a week, I participated in a series of workshops and sessions learning about Entrepreneurship and Business ideation. I had the privilege of working as part of a group to develop innovative solutions to real-world tourism challenges in Ottawa while gaining insights from mentors and industry professionals. It was a rewarding experience and seeing the results of the dedication and creativity of my team & colleagues displayed during the closing pitch competition was truly amazing.

Our placements give you the opportunity to hone your skills beyond the classroom. But don't take our word for it; hear from a student who participated in UNHack2023 out of YSpace, York University. "This experience was crucial as it equipped me with essential skills necessary for my future professional endeavours. Being able to articulate and present ideas effectively is pivotal, whether in the context of pitching a startup or contributing to a work environment. Learning how to develop, refine, and present ideas not only enhanced my communication skills but also provided insights into collaboration and teamwork. The ability to present ideas confidently and coherently is a skill that transcends industries and roles."
