Finland's Fur Farms Confront Bird Flu: 120,000 Animals Culled Finland, Europe's top fox fur producer, is grappling with bird flu outbreaks, resulting in the culling of 120,000 farmed foxes and minks across 13 farms (10 already completed). Bird flu cases emerged in seagulls in June, spreading to fur farm animals in July. Europe has faced its worst bird flu outbreak since late 2021, with concerns about potential human transmission. Finland, with about 400 fur farms and 1.3 million fur animals, faces renewed calls to ban the fur industry. Other nations like France, the Netherlands, and Denmark have already moved to ban fur farming due to pandemic and bird flu risks.
